I recently got a XFX 9800GT and I found it to be the Low power edition with a smaller bus. Got the shop keeper to take it back. That guy said he would give me a 9800GT standard edition for 1k extra. I have already paid him 6k. I believe that the 9800GT standard costs around 6150Rs. So i won't pay him!!!
However if i do pay him 1k extra is not better to get the GTS 250??
Please reply fast i will be getting the card today!!!!

HD 4850 and GTS 250 are equivalent. So go for whichever you want out of these two. Both are certainly better than 9800GT (whatever edition). Also, these cards are only good till 1680x1050. Any resolution higher than this and you will have to play with the settings to lower them a bit in SOME games, not all. Games that released before 2008 mid shd run at full HD and also some very well coded console ports like bionic commando and such.

ATI Radeon HD 4770 review
techPowerUp :: AMD Radeon HD 4770 Review :: Page 26 / 32

Cost of GTS 250~ 8K - 8.5K (Not sure abt this)
Cost of 4850 ~7.5K.
cost of 4770 ~7K

I would say go for 4770. 40 nm, lower power consumption, lower heat generation, better overclocks etc. 4850, GTS 250 and 4770 at stock run neck to neck and once overclocked, 4770 beats the shit out of the other two. If you give me your system configuration, I am more than willing to help you make an informed choice.

Well i have

Phenom II 550BE @3.1GHz

2GB DDR2 RAM

500GB HDD

MA 78GM US2H Motherboard

CM 310

CM eXTREME 460W PSU

I got this config about a week ago!!!

please help, if i go for a GTS 250 it will be a zotac 512 version which is available for 7K here!!

Around 7k also but isn't the GTS 250 better??It does have Physx support and a 256 bit bus so it can process faster than a 4770, right??

Plus this is a 4 year upgrade- so the card i get today will have to last me for the next four years. So please tell me and no my budget for now is maximum 7k.

So please suggest likewise.

True that 4770 has a slower bus but it makes up for it with its faster DDR5 memory. GTS 250 has DDR3. Please dont go on specifications. Just check out the links that I gave you in my earlier post. You will see that both cards run neck to neck in most games.

128 bit DDR5(4770) = 256 bit DDR3 (GTS 250)

See, they both are essentially the same performing cards. The choice should now be made based upon what type of games you play and what type of features you want.

4770 - DX 10.1 (no big deal, but matters in game like HAWX), 40 nm, lower power consumption, lower heat generation, better overclocks etc.

GTS 250 - DX 10, PhysX.

edit: I mentioned farcry2 at a wrong place. Corrected now.

Now the choice is really yours. Get either 250 or 4770. They will perform almost identical, with 250 performing better in games like crysis while 4770 will perform better in HAWX, Far cry 2, AC2 (this is just a personal opinion, so take it with a pinch of salt), and same in almost every other game.

On a side note, none of these cards will last you for 4 years with the settings you intend to play the games at.

forget about PhsX on GTS250. It makes a massive drop in fps but the effects are stunning, especially in Arkham Asylum.

Also forget about heat, noise and power consumption coz in the end fps is the most important factor.

Zotac is reliable brand for nVidia and you can go for Zotac GTS250.

Benchmark Results: Far Cry 2 - Review Tom's Hardware : Mainstream Graphics Card Roundup

as you can see there is a 12fps difference between GTS250 and HD4770 at high quality settings in far cry 2.

I know but i wont be playing FC2 always right!!Anyways i think i will go for the GTS 250 only if the shopkeeper charges 8K for the 4770 !!!Thanks for all your help!!!

Any links that you would like to share with us??:)

Check the same review provided by desibond, and any other review of gts 250 and 4770. Its obvious that 250>4850>4770.

any review to prove otherwise? :bleh:

1. Go for Nvidia simply because they have better game support. More developers in their bag then ATI has. You will come across certain niggling issues with ATI cards here are there such as in Mass Effect where the Depth of Field wasn't present, only with a hack later on or something. I hate all these shitty issues after paying a lot of money for it. But it goes without saying that ATI has better AA support and their lower end cards are GREAT...even the HIGHends for now like the 5870.

2. If you are going for the Zotac which I recommend simply because you can register the card in the time period of 30 days and get an additional 2 years warranty = 5 years total warranty!!!! AWESOME DUDE!
