Androiod dongle is okay only for very small time as most of time dongles don;t have fan they get pretty after extensive usage.Hey guys , on this note, How would a Android Dongle worth 4k + A Monitor combo work? It will be the cheapest setup for downloading i think.
Intriguing. So how long have you been downloading with Pi. What if i use it to download daily 12 hrs. How long will it last in ur estimate. Why not use raspberry PI , it has a debian based OS - Raspbian. It'll consume ~ 10W off the wall socket and 15W more if u attach an external HDD, use deluge and access it remotely without a screen.
Downloading using a cellphone is pretty inefficient as it uses flash memory and takes it's toll on flash performance/life, phone H/W as well as on the battery life.
I'm planning to sell my Netbook too(ASUS 1000HE w/2GB - 160GB-hdd RAM WinXP-SP3(OG) and Win7-32bit which I think is a student copy from Dreamworks) as I don't get much time to use it. It's been sitting idle for the past 4 months at my place, the only time I used it in the past 1 year was when I was presenting my final year project on Raspberry Pi remotely(since then I've shifted all my downloading tasks to the Pi completely).
At what price?Interested in a Asus EEEbox 202 ?
Consumes less power, Portable and has WiFi onboard, 1 GB RAM amd 130 GB HDD and runs windows7 flawlessly.
Okay, lets say I get one of those, but what's the OS? I mean I have no interest in those Linux stuffs, so how will I be operating that thing?I managed to download ~>= 500GB of data from PI(on Raspbian), keeping it turned on for 4 days at a stretch (max) until I had no more storage space left.
It can even serve 1 more purpose , if you use OpenELEC(XBMC derivative) on it, it can act as an excellent HTPC solution, I accidentally managed to control it using my Samsung TVs' remote, later I realized it was due to HDMI CEC(Samsung - Anynet+). But I dont think PI can take the load of OpenELEC + deluge(torrent client) all at once.
For more info on Raspberry PI google is your best help. It has tremendous support and is popular as hell.
I was an ADM user before, but it couldn't accept and download the links I use to download, since then switched to Loader Droid. As I said it's nice, but nothing is comparable with IDM.@ithehappy - Have you tried ADM on Android. I have been using it to download from file-hosting sites without a hitch. Also tried Premium downloader but it wasn't working properly.

No use being so vague, please google more on it. If you want things to be way - too - easy, stay away from Linux.Okay, lets say I get one of those, but what's the OS? I mean I have no interest in those Linux stuffs, so how will I be operating that thing?
Just out of curiosity what exactly do you download 24 x 7 ?My electric bill is going sky high and I keep on my desktop for 24 hours just to download. So was thinking about getting a laptop for that purpose only. What should I get? I want to spend as low as possible. I just need WiFi, Bluetooth and USB 3.0, that's all. And it'd be great if it's light weight.
I get time to sleep 5-6 hours a day. So I don't think if using a thing needed a reading of 2 hours or more it will be my thing, and yes I will stay away from Linux, always. No use being so vague, please google more on it. If you want things to be way - too - easy, stay away from Linux.
Don't really understand the meaning of the question, but there are loads of stuffs I download, mainly shows and movies, a movie sizes at 15-20 GB, and I have a mere 2 mbps connection, and obviously in gaming season the games!!Just out of curiosity what exactly do you download 24 x 7 ?
Please don't judge some of us who download constantly 24/7Just out of curiosity what exactly do you download 24 x 7 ?
Please don't judge some of us who download constantly 24/7. We are saving up all the movies/games/tv shows in case an apocalypse strikes and we are stranded in a deserted island with only our laptop

I wonder if laptops are now solar powered ..
Do people download like this in US or UK / europe too ?
Why another lappy? dosen't the existing one do the trick ?My lappy in college days was nearly constantly on for around 3 years downloading stuff in background after i got broadband in 2nd year. It died after 5 years , but not until it had downloaded some 1 TB or more of data. This thread caught my attention as i too wanted a cheap setup for downloading torrents.
Currently downloading via desktop. Don't wanna overstress it like i did to my lappy which died a premature death i think as my friend's lappy is still going on.Why another lappy? dosen't the existing one do the trick ?
Back in 08/09 when I was in London, was using a O2 broadband, the cheapest one as far as I remember (20-25 pounds p.m) it was of 8 mbps, so obviously it took me 1/4th time to download stuffs! So, no, UK/Europe people spends much less time to download, given the downloaded data amount is same as mine/us. So, to hell our ISPs.Do people download like this in US or UK / europe too ?
I was there recently, and had to provide my name and other details to access torrents, I chose not to. Was this the case back then too ?Back in 08/09 when I was in London, was using a O2 broadband, the cheapest one as far as I remember (20-25 pounds p.m) it was of 8 mbps, so obviously it took me 1/4th time to download stuffs! You have to google it yourself buddy...This was started just a few months back I think. Most known porn and torrent sites are blocked from ISP side and they ask for name and details to unblock the site.
