I highly doubt that it's a fake drive. Never heard of fake HDDs.

I faced a similar problem a very long time ago with the logic board of the HDD corrupting data that I was copying to the drive. Maybe it's a similar issue.

Yes, NTFS on the destination drive, u may consider re-formating it.
 
it worth trying a reformat... but i have a 160gb transcend formatted with NTFS works fine with WinXP and Linux...
 
1. I safely removed the disk before pulling the USB cable

2. Other files copied on the maxtor disk are fine.

3. I have yet to correct my source C drive, since my download is not complete yet.

4. I will disable write caching, that seems to have cause corruption in my source file system. (internal), usually my PC is ON and monitor is off, my folks at home will just come and try to power on which will kind of shutdown the machine.

5. The copy on another usb hdd works fine, and this is the issue only with this HDD.

6. I am going to run chkdsk as well on external disk and then will post the results.

..something tells me this might be the root cause of it all.
 
Can you also please copy a simple small text file onto the ext HDD and verify that the contents are ok?

This can help us understand if the corruption is limited to video(or large) files or whether it's a problem with all files.

And an easy way to verify all went ok is to include checksum files (take your pick, md5, sfv etc).

See if it matches up source <--> destination.
