Hello all, I've been looking for a good raring application for a while now, since I want to transfer some 7 and 8 gig movies onto my portable hard drive, but since it's formatted with MSDOS (FAT32), I can't do it (this formatting of portable HD caps at a 4 gig one-file transfer). I've been looking at mac applications that would be up to the job of raring and splitting each one into about 2 gig files, but I can't find a good one. I've tried SimplyRAR, coding inside of Terminal, and Split & Concat. Split and Concat did split it, but I don't know if the file endings (.001, .002, etc.) will be supported by an application like WinRAR to unrar them. Why can't they have a good raring program for Mac?!?

Can anyone help me with this?

If the encoding is rar, then WinRAR can read those .001 and .002 files and unrar then in their sequence, extracting the content as single file.

7-zip can't make RARs, IIRC, only unpack them. It does make 7z files though, which are marginally better than RAR files in terms of compression..

Thanks for the replies! If Winrar can read .001 and .002, the I will use split and concat. I can't use 7-zip, though, or Winrar itself, because I'm on a mac with Tiger.
