My comp is a laptop acer travelmate 4000

today morning i was cleaning my computer, after shutting it down...
when i switched it on,the 'w' key was being continously pressed, and am continoudly getting the beep beep sound during reboot and after reboot.

1.i tried restarting comp several times....
2.restoring the comp..
3.used key remap utility to disable w key

this worked for some time and after that the sound starts again...

I'm not able to do anythin on the comp,it takes a long time to boot now, very annoying.........

Can anyone help?

Thank you for your time

if it's in warranty then IMO you should consult the service center as doing any thing within warranty may void it.

if it's not then check if the key is pressed all the time.

sometimes when we press a key it doesn't come back to it's original position.

the sound beep too much cause of ram problem faulty issue

remove the ram and power on the laptop without the ram for 5 min test stable

and put back the ram again to the laptop on the back side u need to unscrew ;)

Lol , just pull out the 'w' key and blow in the slot for removing any dust , put the key back in .. The problem should be solved.

^ I suspect multiple pressings of keys due to some liquid that peeped into the keyboard ?

The beep sound occurs when multiple keys are pressed at once .

If you are a screwdriver-savvy person then unscrew the keyboard off the laptop and put it in the sunlight for sometime and introduce it to some blower too .. should solve the problem. and to rule out the keyboard problem , just hook up a normal keyboard to the laptop while the notebook keyboard is out .. if it shows the same symptoms then it has to do with something else but thats highly unlikely.

It being a software problem also doesnt make any sense.:)

k ill try that and report back

hey man it worked,my pc was shut down for abt 4 hrs,and i suppose whatever liquid was there dried out, pity i removed the w key from the laptop, using the external keyboard now
Thanks you!!!!!!!!!!!!

just put the key back to its place , if it has a metal loop kind of thing then put it into the metallic hook on the keyboard's base and press it down to fix the key in the place.
