After going through your posts i get the feelin that you are confused and still not made up ur mind on what type of camera to get.Perhaps you believe you held onto your " crappy 2Mp" cell phone camera for too long and now you want to over compensate by purchasing something really high end. First decide what kind of photography you are most interested in---landscapes, portraits, macro, sports, low light ,etc, etc. If it's macro photography, you are better off buying a medium to high end point and shoot camera.its tiny sensor will make it much easier to get amazing photos.if you are interested in sports or low light photography then i believe DSLR is what you should get. Also a large sensor camera offers you more dynamic range.these days any decent camera can help you get amazing shots most of the time.but if you are really interested in learning photography then buy one that offers full manual controls. Finally don't be under the belief that if you get a great camera, all the photos will be stunning. Have seen many ordinary and less than ordinary shots on sites like flickr taken with really expensive camera.
If you really want to buy a APS-c camera consider a nex3. really a steal at 19k.Compact, lightweight offers great image quality and good video quality as well. major cons- lenses are hard to get in india(you could however buy an adapter and use most lenses(without autofocus ). has a tendency to over expose, etc, etc.but even with these drawbacks it's still a good purchase
Also in case you buy a general purpose lens get a fast 35mm lens for any APS-C sensor camera. 50mm lens on an APS-c will have field of view of 75mm which won't work in your case.
