does this happen all the time ?

...or only when doing certain things and if so what ?

i'm tempted to think there is some PIO business going on here instead of ULtraDMA on the HDs.

Which OS are you running ?

Now what exactly would you mean not up to the mark? If you intend to say that the games you play lag well then you can thank your video card for that.
If you mean a general slowness during boot up and slow responses it could be a a virus, spyware or something;)

hey its general spowness like whle booting xp and when i start certain programs like itunes and as soon as i start my system when i click on start button it takes some time for it to load iam running a win xp with sp2

With a name like ubergeek i was hoping maybe i could ask you for some help sometime :)

was your system always slow...or did it just become that way recently ?

well i used various system optimization tools like disk keeper registry cleaner and i also did many tweaks to registry and also tweaked with group policy but no improvement whatsoever i used aus logics tune up utilities reg defragmenter every thing but there is no improvement in my pcs performance and iam very disapointed

So you are saying it has been slow from day 1, that you are dissapointed with the systems performance ?

yup

u see when i start my comp it starts a bit slow u like it takes a while for the desktop to load iam wondering if my partion is the problem cuz i ve 8 partitions

what to say man .. this kind of scenario can be treated only in person. Your spec looks so good. You may try to see what are the process running in your system, there must be some one eating your CPU. if you dont find anything...then try re formatting once. must dumb answer but i do when i couldnt find anything.

Another thing .. can you borrow a graphics card from anyone and give a try ? One of my pc i was fixing Matrox G550 card .. pc going so slow .. but when i take out the card .. pc works fine. give a try ..noting to lose.

firstly... how much time is sometime??? a normal xp boot up can take abt 45-90 secs...

imo itunes for windows is a shitty piece of code... its sluggish everywhere...

u ahve a pretty darn good config.. nd as sandy said.. de only bottleneck hardware performancewise could be ur gfx card...

do a coupla things will you...

right click on my computer... go to properties..onto hardware tab... in tht click on device manager.. goto IDE controllers nd check de various channels to see where ur HDD is installed... under the advanced settings tab, chk if it says DMA or PIO... if it says PIO.. uninstall that channel by right clicking in device manager nd selecting uninstall. reboot your comp nd de hdd should be detected again nd installed as a DMA device...

in case the above doesn apply to you... make sure you have de latest updates for your antivirus.. i would recommend kaspersky... nd run a full system scan. also scan for spyware with Spybot S n D....

this sounds vague.. but am asking coz i dunno... do u know your way around the registry? or did you jus follow steps on some website somewhere... it is possible that u fiddled wid it a bit too much.. :P

Search for DMA Reset tool on TE. Eazy had posted a link to it in some thread sometime before.

Also, what's your NTFS cluster size?(open command prompt by clicking on start > run > type "cmd", Then type chkdsk and look for X bytes in each allocation unit.) It should be 4K or more for good performance.

i checked in the device manager it says dma and also the cluster size is 4096k and my cabinet temp is 35c and still the performance lags for example while using surface blur on a picture in photoshop a progress bar comes and it takes a while to add the effect i.is it good to have 8partitions

can some one please suugest me a software which tests the power of my processor and ram,hdd like 3dmark is there any software for testing my cpu

Try super PI. BTW the number of partitions does not have any impact on the performance of the sysem ( i have 18 partitions) what so ever.

There may be a hardware conflict ( i used to have a liteon CD-RW drive which if set to slave would cause the booting process to slow down considerably.

Also, pls mention the time it takes for windows to boot (take a stop watch and measure the time bitween the BIOS POST and the time till the desktop appears). Also, whats the OS you are using?

hey ive a 32bit version of win xp and ive a 64bit processor so is this have anything to do with my system performance:huh:
