I'm building a system for my uncle, who is a professional photographer. He needs to have his comp do some tape to DVD conversions, so I bought him a Happauge PVR150. Since he has a P3 :P it needs to be upgraded hehe. Was thinking of giving my DFI rig to him since I have no use for it.
So, will a X2 3800+ with 2GB RAM enough for encoding video on the fly from tape to DVD format? and is a PVR 150 enough or must I get a better model?

Zhops, you saying you cant record with a X2? I emant recording into a file on HDD in DVD format and later burning onto DVD.

My 4 year old rig with a Pctv stereo, 512MB ram and athlon XP 2600+ could record in DVD standard Mpeg 2 in real time and 72% CPU usage!

Can it? In that case, I have a AXP 2500+ lying around which i can give it to him :D

Sorry for hijacking your thread, bunny, but i have a similar query, so instead of starting a new thread, i thought, i'd make use of yours..:ashamed:

I have a compro videomate tv/pvr fm tv tuner card that is connected to my primary rig based(E6300,msi P965neo,2 gb ram,7600gs).I usually record tv programs in pal vcd and mpeg2 format most of the time without any issues.

But, i'm thinking of moving the tv tuner card to my new baby rig (Sempron LE1200,m2n mx se,1 gb ram, onboard GF6100). Will i still be able to record stuff in atleast PAL VCD format on this new system? I'm not too optimistic about the sempron..

lol the X2 will do it easily and with almost no cost, as the PVR-150 has hardware Conexant MPEG2 encoder :)....actually even his P3 will do

MPEG-1 VCD format encoding should be fine. For MPEG-2 may be u should move to the Hauppauge card PVR-150

lol the P3 is a 500MHz , it wont do :P i'm sure the AXP will do just fine :D

@PR : I guess the answer to your question is yes :P
