The battery of my 5+ year old FZ16 is showing signs of aging.
Though there were symptoms from last one year or so - like the bike wouldn't start after being idle for 7/8 days although I ask the service center guys to charge the battery everytime I went for the servicing of the bike (6-8 months interval after free services were over). But from last week, the bike stopped responding to the electric start button. And since FZ didn't had kick start option, I had to push start the bike everytime. (well, that's damn embarashing at time. :p)

On weekend had the batter charged again. And it lasted for whole 6 hours before I had to push it again. (I have become some expert in it. I can start it within ~1 meter now :D).

So now hunt begins for a replacement.
Upon some searches I landed in Amaron's page. And price is also in the same range my local guy told me (~1300). So, I am just asking for some opinion here.

  • Is this what I should go for (Amaron, Exide are popular name in batteries right !!!?) ? Or shall I look for other options?

  • Some more queries on batteries.
    1. Here I saw different batteries listed for different bikes. From my limited knowledge about automobiles, I thought, all two wheeler batteries were 12V. So why so many batteries listed with price range Rs 800-2500? What are the differences other than shape/size?
    2. What is average(approx.) life of a bike's battery?
    3. How to take care of the battery other than chargin now and then?
TIA.

1. Price is based on type of battery. Capacity and brand name. (Genrally exide ones are more expensive)
2. On avg. a battery should last 3 years. Above that is bonus as cells get weak.
3. I suggest to go for sealed type battery. Tata Green is good option as their cranking power is rated higher than competitors. Look for one suggest for your bike.
Also, start the bike alternate day even if not using.
