I went through many pages of the thread *torrent invitition thread*
& observed most of the requests were from members who have just joined or have postcount less than 5-10...
Most of em may have landed up here because of google spiders...
& i must say many people are registering only for the sake of invites...& that would spoil the integrity...:no: . . .. so i request mods to do something about this....
I think there will be people here to flame me....everything welcome...i said what i had to ... & others can tell what they want to.:)

Hell, People are spamming my inbox asking for invites.

We've got to do something about this thread :(, Maybe make it visible only for members with more than a specified number of posts or something like that.
 
yea tht would be nice i remember those secret sections which used to get activated after u reach 250+ post count :lol: but wouldnt tht as well lead to spamming? i mean once the people know bout such secrets then it would be like Spam-away :lol: and not to forget the extra pressure the mods will have to undergo in deleting each and every spam :P
 
^^ Not exactly, the reputation system on TE is excellent ;)

Make it open for poeple only with say 400+ Rep points ;)

Well...lets keep the magic number of "post count" & "rep points" hidden from users...
& let the message be like
' you have to earn some reputation points from other members in order to use this thread '
 
lol if u feel that reps and post count can stop them as reps can be given by
there friends too and post count need not need to be mentioned how it
increases.

But the hidden no. idea seems to be gr8.
 
IMO, take a more holistic approach when dealing with this... questions TE administrators should ask themselves: What is the purpose of allowing Google to crawl TE... i.e, does TE benefit from that, and how? Why should TE forums be viewable to non-members? If Google is generating a significant amount of traffic, figure out the flows that generate the most traffic and decide which flows to shut off from Google... etc.
 
But shutting off google on a thread to thread basis is going to be difficult. Besides. seeing as how an earlier site to which many of us once frequented, once offered gmail invites as a signup bonus, well, what is so wrong with this? Maybe it will get some new members over. But yes, you can do something like to get an invite, you will need x posts or something. Simply because you are not allowed to post in that thread until you have 15 posts.

I can't help your inbox DC. Can't think of any way to help out, except maybe the admins sending PMs to such persons telling them to bugger off.
 
@KK: Ave told my pal Ren to delete my email ID from that post of mine and he has obliged , SO hopefully no more mails for invites for me :D
 
its ok guys this is bound to happen. The rep system is going to suck since there are many respectable members on the forum with 700+posts and still lack those green nibs. Post limit can be done if the mods can handle the spamming or if negative/red repping can be introduced. But all this just because of one thread doesn't make sense....unelss warez links are made clear to post :P
