i doubt that normal ceramic tiles would have any effect on reducing the heat gain from roof. i have lot of tiles used on outdoor walls and they retain heat well into the night.
false ceiling definitely works as there's physics behind it. i've got false ceiling done for the whole common area and it doesn't need any extra cooling.
