Hello,

I have a colleague of mine who wishes to join our group of 4 in Rajhdhani express. He has a waiting list on his ticket for the particular date.

Assuming it will be waiting till the date of journey,it possible for us to accommodate him in our group despite him having a waiting list on his ticket?

TIA..

^ If the ticket doesn't get confirmed / RAC at the time of chart preparation, all WL eTickets will automatically be canceled and the money will be refunded. If your friend is holding a normal iTicket ie the paper ticket you get from the counter and if you are ok with sharing the berth then I don't think there will be a problem.

Thanks for your reply... i had another query related to this. If i have a ticket booked in name of say person X and suppose person Y who has waiting number in his ticket wishes to join us in the journey, can i transfer the ticket to person Y by cancelling the ticket of person X and allocating to Y(person X wont join us and his place shall be taken by person Y).

Well the tickets of Indian railways are not transferable (both e ticket and i ticket). Also if its an I ticket (taken over the counter ) the person "Mr Y " can travel as " Mr X" because they don't ask for identity proof. Provided you are OK/fine with that kind of impersonation. But this situation is not feasible in case of an e-ticket (taken from irctc online website),because the TTE will invariably check for Identity card of the travelling person.

Also will like to correct you for your first doubt - the extra person will not be allowed to travel even if he's got a I ticket (read it as physical ticket) if its wait listed -IN RAJDHANI EXPRESS. If it was any other train he could have accommodated with his colleagues/ others, but in rajdhani they are very stringent and particular about these stuff.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Is it a single ticket for the group of four? If yes the TTE will ask for ID proof of only one of the passengers, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Technically, you can board a train only with confirmed or RAC state ticket. You cannot board with a ticket that is in WL by the time final charts are prepared. It is illegal to do so and would ideally be treated same as a case of ticket-less travel. In practice, quite often this is not enforced.

I had another query related to the railways ticket part.. I had booked an e-ticket with Andaman express for a group of 5 including me. However for some reasons i shall not be able to make it with that group. Now will that group of 4 be still be able to travel with the same e-ticket without me by producing an identity proof of any of the 4 members in the group since i wont be travelling with that group? Or is it necessary to cancel the entire ticket since i wont be in a position to travel with them?

Is there any way by which i can convert an e-ticket to an i-ticket... I had no clue that waiting list e-tickets are automatically cancelled if they aint confirmed/RAC till the date of journey. :-(

^ Yep, that's fine. Any of the 4 traveling members can show the ID proof. You can even cancel yours as you won't be traveling.

I don't think you can convert an eTicket to an Iticket.
