Ads Ads Ads Aaargh...

I'd be happy if they stopped showing those IBF - "If you have any objection to the content on this channel, blah blah" ad while a program is running. Most of the programs are neutered to death with beeps, cuts etc. We wouldn't find anything objectionable in them even if we wanted to. They could put it before or after the program runs for a few seconds or if they want to layer it on something, put it on the ads.

The Irony - They show it during the program and not during the ads.

I don't know if most of the people in the entertainment industry have turned into retards. Movies are bad, programs are bad and News reporters/readers are bad. Yet channels keep popping up every few days and have tons of sponsors.

New shows based on old shows or which resemble old shows are a joke you just can't compare 'RK Laxman's Common Man' to 'Wagle ki Duniya'.

I really wish Doordarshan launches a channel called 'DD Retro' and reruns the shows that made TV popular back in the day. The best thing about this would be that they don't have to make the shows, may be just pay the royalty fee for the show. Hence, the sponsorship required should be less meaning less ads. A channel showing quality shows with less ads what else can I/We wish for?

Anyone noticed that Star World is censoring Two and a Half Men? I don't mean beeping out stuff, like literally chopping portions of the show. I don't know if they're doing it with other shows/other channels. A-wholes :mad:

And they were doing it for episodes after 11PM too..

Censoring sucks :-( They censor almost everything. Chop the movie or TV Show. Not much advertising on HD channels but censoring is too much :-(. The only happy person with Tata Sky HD in my family is my mother :P She enjoys all the daily soaps in HD without much advertising on HD channels, hardly 30seconds :P (Star Plus HD, Sony HD, Zee HD are like :O winner for my mom, which I never care about :P)

Two and a half men comes on Star world ?? :O

I mean i didn knew it was aired on which channel.. :)
Been ages that i sat in front of TV for anything other than news/cricket.
The tv keeps blaring in the other room and hence it is nothing more than a radio for me now. I hear em, but can't connect the voices to the characters if anybody asks me.

My cousin watches more tv in a two day's sitting than what i watch in the entire year.

Now who ll understand the plight of downloaders in such a scenario.. where we have ads, and censored content all the time..? To make matters worse, english sitcoms are beamed to us after ages. As for Indian content, we dont have quality programmes, and no good plans by ISP to think about streaming the content.. even if one is ready to subscribe to online content by paying!

Plus the dream of getting True HD on TV is not fulfilled everytime. Ministers can (shamelessly) go on a paid holiday, but dont they watch anything while they check into hotels there..??

Doordarshan days were much much better.

Feel so proud+relieved to have seen some real gems. Cherish them now even more.

Watch English movies on TV with Indian Censorship where all swear words are muted some scenes are removed for being remotely violent or explicit at times breaking the movie.

Hmmmm.... :23:
Yeah but when the TV is in the living room where family is present often, I'm happy with the censorship. ;)

@kvikram - Considering you are watching HD channels it is safe to assume that you have a LCD/LED TV & HT system. Why not spend a bit on a good media player? I watch movies, anime, serials on my WD LIVE without ADs but that is not the point.

The point is if you are shelling out extra for these so called premium channels then there should be no ADs.

I do have Asus Oplay Mini. Most of my movie-watching is done on this. However it is fun to turn on the TV occasionally to watch some random movie that's been put up.

The only point which i now see in keeping a DTH/cable subscription is that for once, you do get relief from going crazy with the downloads.
The odd time that u come back from work or outside in general, or sit with friends/relatives.. the reg system of tv watching provides more relaxed viewing experience.

The way ads used to appear earlier gave you that little window to chat/discuss/take a break. All in all it didnt amounted to 'heavy viewing ' as i would call it.
That was the only advantage, and for something like 185 per month, it was a good option too.. till the excess ads and sub standard programs really ruined it.

The ads appearing in HD channels and esp the ones where promo characters pop up while main movie/program is running is just plain ridiculous.

Hell they even censor Big bang theory. What is the point in watching the censored 15 min show stretched to a half an hour when you can download the same in 15 min, watch it at your will with out any ads, censorship and that too right after its original broadcast.
I find the English news channels esp CNN and BBC far better in terms of ad policy, at least those are a bearable.
Also most of the English movie channels have their ad breaks in check. But with the pop out ads and censorship, it spoils the experience.

A bit OT here, I think the censorship rules should be relaxed a bit. Reality is when you go out on the street you will find more foul language. I don't understand murders, robberies, rape etc are shown on tv (though bad light) then what is the problem with the F word and the S word.
Those guys shouting out on the street surely didn't learn it from the TV when they were kids, come on give it a break.

god knows what would happen when south park will be airing.

Here's one bit I remember. Only the underlined part was aired. I mean WTF??? What kind of censorship is this? :annoyed::facepalm:

[Sheldon and Rajesh are watching television. Alka Yagnik's voice can be heard singing]
Sheldon Cooper: Is that woman Aishwarya Rai?

Rajesh Koothrapali: Yes, isn't she an amazing actress?
Sheldon Cooper: Actually, I'd say she's a poor man's Madhuri Dixit.
Rajesh Koothrapali: [angered, Rajesh turns his head toward Sheldon] How *dare* you! Aishwarya Rai is a goddess! By comparison, Madhuri Dixit is a leperous prostitute!
Sheldon Cooper: [shocked] Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you. Obviously, you're not that familiar with Indian cinema.
Rajesh Koothrapali: [angrily turns his head toward Sheldon a second time]

It does air at 12AM, I think on vh1.
Saw an episode once, it had as many beeps as words. Hardly could make out anything.
Cartman was silenced by the Indian censor board.
The episodes 200 and 201 i.e. S14 E 5 and 6 were banned in India

That one might just have some basis to it.

They just stopped at Sheldon asking about the actress. What followed could have been objectionable to some people, as outside India they understand that celebs have a near 'God' like status and they dont like western sensibilities interfering in any manner. And to keep their business free from any trouble, they steered clear of any controversy/bitterness which might have occured.

@kvikram - We are seriously deviating from the topic.

Going back to the first line you said in this thread. You pointed out the time for which ads are shown on 2 channels but what about the other non HD Channels?

I don't want to have 200+ channels and watch 20 minutes of ads and 10 min of the actual program (Quality of the program not withstanding) instead of the other way around or just stick to a handful of channels which might/might not have content of my interest just because of few ads.

As of now, the only channel that I keep switching to whenever I watch TV is Fox Crime. It airs programs that are watchable and carries very few ads in between. An episode in the 9pm to 10pm slot usually gets over by 9.40pm, with just a couple of ad breaks, each lasting less than 30 secs. Irrespective of the time slot, the ad breaks between episodes are very few and short. After the episode is over, they keep showing ads until the next program begins.

before they dump their bull shit of cable digitization, TRAI should regularize the amount of advts on the channels. someone should sue or file a PIL.

Along with the ads also the channel operators and the satellite dish provider's logo are also very bugging.
Does Big still has its huge logo constantly glaring?
They should make their logos translucent when the program is airing and whatever the hell they want with their logos during the ads.
For God sake we want to watch the programs and not their stupid logos

That is seriously funny isn't it? Advertising your service to viewers who are already subscribed to your service.

Its not meant for you, but for the guest who is keeping you company :)
Besides its their way to reinforce/boost their image with u,so that u dare not let any other provider's idea creep in your mind .
