Hello TE members and phone gurus ,want to a buy phone budget is 15-18k. i need a phone with a large screen, good video and music format support, internet and a good signal reception my eyes are on samsung wave.whats ur thoughts and suggestions on that or can i get a better phone than that at this budget i need it ASAP..

good choice but keep in mind wave is not a future proof phone like an android or iphone .. a few months down the line u may feel the need to change ur phone and when u decide to do that u will not get a good resale value .. bada os on the wave is new and will take 6 months to stabilize and gain popularity . til then other os like android and ios4 wil be miles ahead .

so either buy an android ( used samsung galaxy s , htc desire ) or used iphone 3gs . should cost u 20-22 k

or wait for sept 30th . nokia n8 launch is confirmed on sept 30th .. and that phone is expected to be priced at 25k . will be cheaper in the grey market .

it has large 3.3'' amoled screen, even divX player for videos and has a good OS and browser too

even BADA OS has a good future

yes its has a large screen . amoled , good browser and divx but as i said 2-3 months down the line he may not want to keep that phone as there will be better phones available and his resale will be really less .

anybody who has decided to buy a phone now , my advise would be to wait till end of sept cause many phone are due for launch in oct, like the winmo7 , n8 , htc desire hd and not to mention price of iphone4 is going to fall soon .. agreed that all these may be out of ur budget but buying a phone now is not a good decision especially something as new as a bada os .

wait till end of this month and then take ur decision .

why are you so much concerned about resale value ??

all cellphones except iphone don't have any good resale value

Wave eyes closed n hands down...

Hardware wise No fone even compares to wave... well except for galaxy..[but it does not have flash.. :P]

And talking about about bada n android.. how much of a difference can there be ???

Its not like android is windows 7 and bada is MSdos.. [ just for comparisons sake.. ]

Bada has ALMOST all the basic applications one might need, play all sorts of video formats, fb chat push mail etc, themes, but less games which im sure will grow in near future given the amount of interest and money samsung is putting in..

you will need android only if you are hell bent on all sorts of customizing.. you wont use the entire 30k apps available out here... just the top 50 - 100 at most..

All im saying is that bada is good enough for a cellfone.. altough android would have been advantageous... wave is the best you can get for 17k.

resale value is just one factor .. but i can bet that all those who have the wave will dump it in 2 months cause it will take a long time for the os to develop and apps may not come by fast .. samsung has a history of not providing software support .. i have no doubt they will dump this bada soon and put android and winmo7 on their phones only .

500 apps is a joke at this time .. all samsung has is a phone with good hardware at a good price but they will not be able to make it as big as the iphone or android as that will take a year at least .

so if u want a phone with fantastic hardware and a fantastic price the wave is for u , or else invest in a android .

^^^^^what advantages will an Android fone have over wave ????

plz tell in detail because i have never used android before..

Seems you dont know what you are talking about. Samsung is supporting the Wave very well. Already firmware updates have been realsed and a mojor one is in the offing. Apps will naturally take time but certainly will.

come back to this thread after 2-3 months to see who is right . wave users will surely dump their phones .. samsung makes great phones but doesnt provide software support for any bugs that develop in the phone.. it started with the omnia hd .. after a long time they sorted the bugs in the omnia hd but till then users had already picked up other phones .. the same is with galaxy s and wave ..

i remember when the omnia hd came out it was in direct competition to the 5800 . people were going gaga over the omnia hd with the screen and hd playback .. after a few months look what happened to the omnia hd ... the newer technologies overtook it and hd playback became common ..today the value of the omnia hd is zilch but at that time it was the phone to have .+ there were so many bugs in the hd that samsung took a long time to fix ....it also had a fast 600mghz processor and fantastic camera. the same case is with the wave . excellent hardware but better phones will overtake it soon and after 2-3 months ur phone will not look as great it looks now .

give it 2-3 months i am sure u will jump on the winmo7, apple , android or n8 bandwagon and dump the wave . the wave is not a future proof OS .but we shall all only know that as time passes by .

Guys really confused,i m not thinking of any upgrade for atleast an year so i can stretch budget upto 20k not a penny more than that .i can wait for another week so keep sending ur advices.

IMHO, here are what you can look for in ur budget

Wave - Excellent hardware but am not so sure about Bada OS as app support currently is quite poor--- for android except for Games - I find pretty much every apps I need.. AM waiting for Galaxy U ( Wave hardware with Android)

Nokia N8- Great multimedia feature but am still not impressed by the aging OS design even with Symbian ^3

HTC Legend - great design but just above average multimedia

Second iPhone 3GS - I think this is one of the best option in 20k range rite now... unless more Android phones come along

forget thinking about resale stuff enjoy the hardware of 27k in 17k and have fun live in present
Agreed, Wave indeed looks a great VFM at that price. It surprises me how samsung could surpass Symbian S60 v5 in terms of UI and snappiness with their baby OS. [I agree, the 1 GHz A8, PowerVR SGX 540, (provided that hardware acceleration is enabled? Is it , can anyone enlighten us, considering that Android is yet to have that feature.? ) does help ;) ].

In short, as said by others, it seems if you can wait, (which is what I'm doing for now, waiting for price drops;one the dual-cores come, 1GHZ would go mainstream ;) ) for say,3-6 months, you are likely to get much better choices for your budget.

(Keep in mind, that this is not only because of the constantly declining h/w prices, but also because of the change to a new ARM architecture, which coupled with a switch to 45 nm [Qualcomm yet to do it], should considerably reduce the prices)...
Else, go for Wave if you are ok with a device which right now, has one of the best hardware and surprisingly good OS . (IMHO, for the price). Only, if you want to do lots of fiddling, Wave may fall short. AFAIK, there are still some major applications you may be familiar to , which have not yet officially reached BADA. (like google maps, though an unofficial one is available. With time, most of the common favourites, should be available in BADA; Again, in all indications, Samsung seems all intent in making sure that BADA gets lots of support, and are unlikely to completely withdraw; considering that it is their best bet to make a splash in the feature phone market and make some cash along the way,via apps ;) )
