Hi to one and all,
I am planning to get a brand new system. The specs are as below:

1 MOTHERBOARD GA-EP45-UD3P

I went to Gigabyte's website but found that there is a DDR3 version of the same motherboard.

Is DDR3 a better option?

Also with the mobo mentioned above, there are three revisions which are:
1. rev. 1.0
2. rev. 1.1
3. rev. 1.6

I have a feeling that it would be better to stick with DDR2 for the time being.

But I don't have a clue what the different revisions really mean.

If anybody could shed some light on these revisions and also illuminate whether DDR3 or DDR2 would be the better choice for overclocking, I would be most thankful to them.

Thanks a ton,
Siddharth

If I buy the DDR3 version will it have the same overclocking pedigree as its DDR2 brethren?

Also can you please suggest some good DDR3 RAM that's compatible with this motherboard and a FSB of say 470? (I'm planning to buy a Q9550 to go with it.)

DDR3 makes sense if you're going in for a Core i7 system.

Otherwise, there's hardly any difference between DDR3 & current DDR2 800/1066 ones.

Hey guyz,

Thanks 4 ur advice.

So I'll go 4 the DDR2 model the Gigabyte EP45-UD3P, with some suitable fast DDR2 ram. Do any of you know what the different revisions mean though?

Which revision motherboard would be the best to get?

Could you elaborate in terms of frame rates? Maybe high bandwidth dual channel DDR3 RAM gives only 1 or 2 FPS more than DDR2 RAM? Would this be the case?

i7 supports triple channel DDR3, that extra bandwidth helps quite a bit in memory benchmarks.

On a core 2 platform, DDR3 performance gain is not justified at its price point, especially not in gaming.

Hey Damn,

I'm interested in knowing about the revisions of the motherboard. Is it better to get rev. 1.0 or rev. 1.1 or rev. 1.6?

By the way, how is your motherboard performing? What is the difference between your motherboard and the P version?
