Advice on wi-fi Router

Hi
A big hello to all the Gurus here.

I am a newbie. I have a Reliance Netconnect+ datacard(Huwaei model) internet connection used for my desktop. My desktop has no wifi facility. Now I want to use the internet connection of the desktop for my Android mobile through wifi. What hardware will be required. Is Router is enough for this purpose. My querry may sound basic but Gurus, pls advice me a solution. Thanks in advance.

You have two-three options here, it would be helpful if you mention your budget

Case 1: Connect your data card to desktop use a usb WiFi adapter(example like this), and share the net connection using WiFi

Case 2: Buy a basic standalone router like this and share your data card by putting the router in access point mode

Case 3: Buy a dedicated router which has a usb port which supports plugging in a data card(like this), but this routers are costly, upwards of 3k

Finally you can get one of those small portable hotspot/routers like this, and plug the datacard in desktop and share but there range is shorter

Thanks Allrounder799 for your quick and helpful reply. My budget is around 1000.

Pls suggest whether I can go for 'TP-LINK 150Mbps Wireless N' router http://http://www.flipkart.com/tp-link-150mbps-wireless-n-white/p/itmd7hn92fytnj3h?pid=RTRD7HN3B2FKYXH4&icmpid=reco_pp_same_router_router_2

or 'TP-LINK 150Mbps Mini Wireless N USB Adapter ' http://http://www.flipkart.com/tp-link-150mbps-mini-wireless-n-usb-adapter-tl-wn723n-white/p/itmd8fse6hbdfyxw?pid=USBD8FNU6GDZRQQ6&icmpid=reco_pp_same_usb_adaptor_usb_adaptor_2

The TP link routers have some better reviews in Flipkart. Am I correct.

I will use it mostly within the same room (First floor) and in rare case I will use in groundfloor of my house.

Thanks in advance

Sorry for hijacking the post, but i too wanted to connect my Cable Internet connection with my Ipad through Wifi. What will be the best option out of the three.
I think i will have to keep my pc on if i go with the 1st option.

I would suggest this out of two you mentioned, while the adapter is small and cheap but if you upgrade to broadband in future it will helpful, also it has more features than adapter, and fits in your 1k budget

As you have a cable internet connection(broadband) a standalone router like this one or this one will suit your needs
