Hello everyone,

So, you can read my configuration below. I wanted to upgrade CPU from my present core 2 duo and so thought of upgrading my mobo too. Current mobo is XFX 650i Ultra. Budget is around 10k for both put together. I thought of going with SidhuPunjab's suggestion of Biostar TA790GXB - 4.5k and AMD Phenom II X2 550 - 5.4k from his PC Buying Guide but need you'll to shed some light O.O cuz don't want to make any wrong decisions :D

And, last but not the least do you'll think I should upgrade my PSU too to Gigabyte 460W (2.2k) from my present CM500W, especially with me wanting to OC my CPU? I have read some bad reviews about CM Power Supplies.

-Thanks

Athlon II x4 620 - 5.2k/Phenom II 550 BE- 5.5k(can be unlocked to quad core with right batch nos of proccy and with acc enabled bios)

Biostar TA 790GBXE - 4k

For Psu it wud be better if u upgrade to VX550(futureproof) for ATI 5850,5870 or Gt300

Yeah, I guess it wouldn't make sense to upgrade to Gigabyte 460W, and VX550 is nearly 6k :( Do you think it is absolutely necessary for me to upgrade my PSU or can I just stick around with the CM500? (its been working fine till now wid my present config even after I OCd my proccy to from 2.13 to 3.2 GHz)
I was only thinking of upgrading because I wouldn't want my new mobo+cpu to get spoiled or smthing. So, unless you'll think tat it can spoil my mobo+cpu, i won't upgrade! What do you'll think?

-Thanks again

You arent gonna see some huge performance improvement doing that . What is your applicaition ?

If its only games I think you can hold out a bit and get the 5850 when its a 12-13k card. That would make the most sense for you.

Nah, main reason I am doing this is, because I am building a new PC from my old parts and this mobo is not v.good for overclocking. Don't want to upgrade GPU coz I just upgraded to 4850 3-4 months back. And like I said, not really looking for a performance improvement, its just tat I want to use my old mobo and proccy to assemble another PC. And, again do you'll think it is absolutely necessary for me to upgrade my PSU too?

Oh then thats fine , I have read a lot about CM xtreme being bad and ive seen instances where other psu makers glacial tech etc etc (not only them) not pulling sli with a rated 650 watt etc etc .

I know someone running a e7300 and 4670 all stock on a cmx 500 the psu blew up in a year.

So I personally cringe when i see good expensive hardware run on anything other that a Cm real power or a Corsair VX/HX something thats been on the market for sometime and we know the 80+certification is not a sticker.

Sorry for the rant coming back to your scenario where you are moving towards a Phenom 2 quad core setup and eventually will pair that with a more powerful gpu it makes sense to get a better psu in the 550-650 range (VX550 is more than enough for all single card applications) and get that eventual upgrade out of the way.

Yes it absolutely necessary to upgrade ur pus unless u want to gamble with ur cpu and gpu , then its fine.

Take my word since u will upgrade go to VX 550w (Futureproof)

Hmm ok, then maybe I'll just have to increase my budget and upgrade my PSU too. Hopefully the VX550 will last me for atleast another 3 years O.O or am I asking too much :P
Thanks a lot Zloyd and Razvan-Sedekiah. :D

@OP: I don't understand your requirements. Why do you want to upgrade your system when you can already have some good overclocks? If you wnat to use your old mobo and CPU for another PC, you better build new PC from ground up, maybe except for the GOU and monitor. And for a new PC, get a Quad like AII 620 and OC it. It overclocks very well and you can easily reach 3.5 with a good cooler.

AFAIK even a VX 450 can handle 5850, and because you are not going to upgrade your GPU right now, that should be able to handle your overclocks and other upgrades. Get VX550 only if you plan on a 5870 or dual setup.

Well, i plan on GPU upgrade but not right now. Maybe like 1-2 years later lol. So, i wouldn't want to upgrade my PSU again tat time......so i thought might as well go with VX550 instead of VX450. Btw, about building new PC. I have only about Rs. 18,000 or so and I have a couple of spare RAMs, hard drive etc. so i don't want to waste those parts.

U missed something in Market Section
http://www.techenclave.com/members-market/coolermaster-real-power-m700-150508.html

Things cant get better.

Go for DDR3 board, DDR2 prices are almost equal to DDR3.
550(unlock) + 790gx A3+ or MSI 785 Evo

Umm, yeah ok I guess it makes sense to go with DDR3 mobo and RAM. Any suggestion for DDR3 Mobo+Proccy+RAM. Budget around 12-13k? Maybe add 2k. Preferably want the mobo+proccy to fall under 10k. And, this may sound noobish but are there processors that are specifically compaitible with DDR3 Mobos? And also, how much can I get for a 2x2GB 800 MHz Corsair Gaming Memory CL5 (says on packet lifetime warranty) which is in perfect working condition and purchased on 15/08/09. It also has a heatsink.

The motherboard suggested by Gow1tham, MSI 790GX is too costly 7k+. How much does the Biostar TA790GX A3+ cost?

Bump~ bump~ bump~ bump~

Socket AM3 processors from AMD support DDR3

Do for Athlon 620 or 550BE

+

Biostar 790 A3+(6.3k)/ MSI Evo 6.9k

There are other cheaper boards bit I was unable to find their prices in India.

MSI evo costs just 4.5k in US btw:P

Hi again guys,

Will my Sunbeamtech Core Contact Freezer be compaitable with Phenom II 550 BE proccy? I couldn't find it on google. :|
