Air India Ahmedabad-London flight Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashes near airport in Ahmedabad

not a bird strike, engines would have been smoking, RAT was deployed (you can hear it in one of the videos), so both engines just stalled out? dunno, dreamliner is a modern craft, it's almost impossible to stall out both engines because of how many redundancies are built in
That's also what's being said on r/aviation, apart from speculation, we can only wait for the official report at this point. I'd even advise forum members not to actively pursue videos being circulated if they can't stomach the gore and sickening scenes.
Given the public nature of the forum, I wish to express my deepest condolences to the people onboard, the crew members and pilots, and people present in the campus hostel and locality.

a nothing burger, this shameless asshole is just trying to milk the tragedy for his views, he "noticed" a touch screen on the seat not being responsive, flight in the terminal not having AC.
A/C not working isn't that a trivial issue to be totally ignored as it sometimes is indicated with more serious related causes, there was some social media posts that the flight got delayed due to some concerns, later took off.
India's lack of civil sense which we generally call out can manifest into cavalier wayward attitude while dealing with areas where more care is required. If one notice recently, there were lot of issues related to services in airport and high-hand attitude of staff there irking customer allover.

I feel like a few KMs long strip of space in front of takeoff strip would have saved this airplane. Isn't takeoff and landing the two most dangerous parts of flight journey? At least that's what I remember.
Boeing also doesn't have a good reputation anymore as they once had. This whole situation sucks and my condolences to the families of those who passed away.

Ahmedabad runway strip is shorter by 500-800 meters compared to Delhi or Bangalore. Even if they had room, they had to deal with a very heavy aircraft due to fuel + momentum of 300+kmph (ground speed reported 174knots) it would have consumed the runway in seconds.

AC not working is simply because airlines dont want to spend more on fuel while on ground, jet engines guzzle fuel like crazy, its just a cost cutting measure and nothing else, now if its indeed an issue, then SOP is for pilots to call maintainence folks and consult them who will either pull the circuit breaker and put a no-op sticker on it, or if its in MEL list, then simply cancel the flight or assign another plane.

Modern Aviation has redundancies on top of redundancies on top of redundancies. No commercial airline would ever risk a Airframe for a measly flight. its not like jugaad where anything works or sab chalta hai, there are very strict rules and regulations about everything, built on blood that every airline follows.
Boeing has had quality issues over the last few years. This particular Dreamliner was manufactured in 2011, and AI took delivery of it in 2013, IIRC. I suspect maybe poor aircraft maintenance on AI's end, and the overload of fuel just served as a catalyst?
let's just wait on official report before assigning blame, this is the first hull loss for Dreamliner, Boeing will be on point cooperating with Indian authorities to find out the root cause, looks like both Cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder survived, that will really help out investigation.
News going about suggests all 242 passengers have perished.
I hope not.
Same here
All true handy dandy, For a fact I know there are pilots who fly these airplanes in set mood.
not sure if you are agreeing with me or not, but if you are not, then its simply because airlines/pilots aren't following established CRM guidelines and checklists, its a failing on the pilot and more importantly a failing on the airline for not discouraging such behavior and not providing adequate CRM training. There are way too many crashes which could have been avoided or atleast improve the outcome if pilots had followed basic CRM techniques.

I am going to go off twitter and social media for some time. The videos and pictures being circulated are truly horrifying. People have zero regard for the dead treating it like a circus show shoving the phone cameras on the deceased, showing the whole manifest with passport numbers, fake misinformation spreading like wildfire and people using this as fuel for different agenda. I am disgusted with what is happening.

indicates what am trying to convey. Considering this is an international flight, do other international companies practice this in India ?
Now, flap configuration during take off issue is being talked about.

IDK why police can't setup crime scene stripes so civilians don't interfere with their work.

Nothing new here, nearly everything is being speculated upon.

Regarding the flaps not being extended, there is an image of the wing where it is extended. The 787 has a digital checklist and an incorrect take off configuration warning, so it would be extremely odd if the configuration was wrong. In past cases, when that happened, the planes were nowhere stable or had even that amount of lift.

The only ADS-B data point indicates a ground sped of 184 knots just after takeoff which is also in range.

The RAT deployment cannot be easily made out but combined the reports of the Mayday call stating no thrust, it seems a catastrophic double engine failure, which may have raised its head already when rolling down the runway.

Anyway, the black boxes are in the rear, and the elevator section was lodged separately in the building, so will be retrieved relatively quickly and the preliminary report should be out in a month or so.
