Hey guys

I am currently on Airtel Swift 1099 and getting a constant 512Kbps and good internet service, with virtually zero downtime.

I am thinking of upgrading my connection. I have two choices:
Airtel 1Mbps 1699

Pros
Excellent service, uptime and CC(ie. no downtime)

Cons
FUP of 100 GB
Just 1Mbps, I don't know whether they will actually upgrade the speeds and if so, then when

MTNL 2Mbps 1899

Pros
Double the speed
No FUP

Cons
Poor service
Too much downtime
Pathetic past experience

REQUIREMENT
24/7 browsing
1 PC game of 5-7 GB every 2-3 days and 1 Movie (avg size 1GB) everyday.
Youtube and videos every now and then
To be used on 2 pc terminals, though mostly I use the net
Which connection should I choose? The budget is Rs.1500-2000 at most, everything inclusive. Airtel 2Mbps at 2999 + taxes is out of budget by a wide margin and doesn't seem that worthwhile either.

In case the speeds are doubled, what would the FUP for the increased speeds be?

Warm Regards

Aakshey

MTNL, they have greatly improved their services.

What bad experience did you have with MTNL? I never face any downtime, except for maybe a minute or two in a few months.

except from Customer Service, for which you have bear with. Everything else is good. Their network is solid and rarely goes down.

MTNL rocks
yes the service is bad n their CC people don't know what they are doing but in the end its the SPEED and RELIABILITY of the NET that matters for Me :P

Just give airtel cc a call and tell them that you got a call regarding double speed upgrade and try your luck.

I have been using airtel from past 3 year.Superb Service with literlly zero downtime and super quick service.

I get 1mbps(Full Time) with any fup on my swift 1099 me being an airtel dth customer.

The upgrading would be completed by June end.

The 1099 plan is 512 in the day and 1MBPS at night right?

Stick with Airtel. It's the best Internet I have ever used. Absolutely brilliant service.

Seriously... how many service providers have u had an experience with.. !!!!?

@ OP
I am not sure if the cons u have mentioned is true for everyone. It might have been a one off case with u or ur location. but I personally found the service amazing. 1 mbps for 1000 bucks with no FUP, no downtimes and no network issues. Am sure if u had used it sometime back there were a few issues but MTNL has moved ahead in leaps and bounds wrt quality of service. Only if u can bear with how the customer service at the CC talks to u, then MTNL is a better choice. Not that Airtel is bad but ur getting more of a VFM deal from MTNL.

Go for MTNL , it rocks , downtime is very less.I have been using MTNL since 2005 , started with 256kbps Night Unlimited to 512kbps Full time Unlimited to now 1mbps Unlimited.

I use 1mbps for 999pm with 100 calls free and telephone rent waived off.

Airtel was the best earlier , but with MTNL speed increase their offer is unmatchable unless Airtel does the same.

And don't worry about CC , u can directly call to your Telephone Exchange who will take care if their is any problem , genereally is their is its usually a line problem.

And trying to keep up with the private players, MTNL has upped their game. If you register a complaint, usually the line man fixes the problem the same day or the very next day.

Dam it! Lucky for you guys. Here in Bombay, 2Mbps unlimited is for a whopping Rs.3999/- :@
4 mbps unlimited is 3499 here , you should probably complain , there is no reason they should have different tariffs .

Slightly offtopic...but what do with so much bandwidth? I was on 1mbps and in a month or so ran out of what to download. Youtube vides (even HD ones) run fine on 512...
