Airtel to offer 50 mbps Internet with 200 GB FUP for 9k in Delhi

Thing is, even American ISPs have a FUP policy.
No, thing is, Comcast has a FUP policy.

Verizon on the east coast has no FUP whatsoever.

In fact they are not even nice about it that your speed will be reduced to half when you go over the limit. They simply cut off your connection. No questions asked.
For example, Comcast has a 250GB per month limit on all their plans, be it 2mbps or 20mbps.
Comcast is a shitty ISP. This has been know for many years now.

Agree :eek:hyeah:

However, like otehrs have pointed out.. people who are complaining about 200GB being too less need to get off of thier computers, step out and get a REAL life :|

200gigs is wayyyyyyyy more than enough for even someone that regularly downloads HD for that matter.

Ideal would be a plan for say 2k @ 2mbps with a 200Gig limit :hap2:

Or, for that matter a plan for 2k @ 10mbps with a 100gig limit. Would have jumped at one if it were to be available.

for everyone who says 200GB is enough, lets go back into the history of computing.

“I think there’s a world market for about 5 computers.”

(Thomas J. Watson IBM.

"640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates

“There is no reason for any individual to have a computer in his home - Ken Olson, President, DEC,

they were great men but their predications went horribly. because people have different needs and accorodly use different amount of bandwidths.so it would be foolish to make a assumption.lets not assume anything

Today we are in age of bandwidth hungry applications such as high-definition content , high-speed internet access, video on demand, IPTV, online gaming, distance learning etc. all these applications demand tons of bandwidth.

Quoting folks that went horribly wrongs with predictions is an easy task. Being practical about requirements is different. Did you see me saying that 200gigs a month is all you will need for the rest of your life?

Given the current state of bw hungry applications (as you call them), 200gigs is going to be enough for anyone, unless all you do is download a bazillion HD movies a month and never watch them.

Thanks for telling me he obvious. :p
the point of my post was to make it known that even 200GB is more than enough for downloads as well utilizing the fast speeds to their full potential. I agree with Mr. Stalker about that. I am more than happy withy 250GB mnthly cap.

Uber pricing! Couldn't resist!

People complaining about just how quickly the 200GB limit will be reached when downloading continuously at 50Mb/s need to shut up :).

Amen!

while i agree with saumil that 200GB is more than enough (i have a 2mbit plan with 100GB FUP and i don't even come close), the pricing of the plan might not be so bad if you're reduced to half the speed (25mbps) after hitting the FUP.

is it an unlimited connection with FUP or a limited connection where you pay money after hitting 200GB?

Point of my post was to highlight your misleading characterisation that 'american ISPs' have FUPs.

WTF does 'American ISPs' mean ?

All of them or some.

Those unaware would think ALL of them have FUPs because its the norm here.

FUP on my plan for 386kbs is 75GB, thats for rs.999/month
The plan in this thread is 9times that amount but only provides a FUP 2.5 times larger.

This tells me that its easier for ISPs to offer faster speeds but the same most certainly does not apply for data limits.

Whether the quota is enough or not is irrelevant, its inconsistant with other plans.

IOW its a crap deal.

The other point i did not get in your post is how does one objectively say how much is enough ?

Why is 200GB enough and not 100GB or 300GB :)

Enough for me has always boiled down to the individual.

Why cant they provide a simple 2mbps no fuped connection for 1 grand rather than introducing such idiotic plans.
If you ask me, it is not such an idiotic plan after all. We have SAP in our office which we use over CheckPoint VPN. The traffic is not huge but speed is of utmost importance. We are using the Velocity 4999 (16Mbps, 100GB) Plan as of now. Will change to this whenever it launches here.

There never was, and still isn't, any proof of that line. Ever. It is just hearsay.

He denies ever saying it.

Q. Did you ever say, as has been widely circulated on the Internet, "640K [of RAM] ought to be enough for anybody?"

A.No! That makes me so mad I can't believe it! Do you realize the pain the industry went through while the IBM PC was limited to 640K? The machine was going to be 512K at one point, and we kept pushing it up. I never said that statement–I said the opposite of that.

I've always wondered why he could ever say it because M$ isn't exactly known for writing the tightest of apps. It would be ludicrous for them to even attempt to do so given the never ending updates those apps have had over the years.

Everyone, Offtopic Much...

Anyway fact is for someone like me who practically keeps on downloading all the time, 200 GB will be enuf because heck, where am i supposed to store all the stuff.

But at 10 grand, Bharti must be outaa their minds...

^^Its not that Airtel is out of minds to price it 9k!

If they offer 50mbs at 2k, many many customers will take it...but their network will be clogged!

Not necessarily . A guy with a 2 mbps connection downloading a 700 mb file will keep utilizing 2 mbps from the network for an hour while a guy downloading 700 mb at 50 mbps would utilize 50 mbps of bandwidth but ONLY for 2 minutes and since the plan isnt unlimited people wont be downloading 24*7 . So theoretically this can reduce network clogging :)

i think many people are getting confused with "download limits" and "FUP limits".

from the looks of it, this is a LIMITED plan where you pay more money after hitting 200 gigs i.e download limit.

it is NOT (or at least doesn't seem to be) an unlimited connection where your speed is halved or reduced after 200 gigs but with no extra charge i.e FUP
