Airtel Wifi question

Hi,

I have been using Airtel ADSL broadband connection since long. Now that I have purchased Moto Defy, I would to make use of its WiFi while at home and also on my laptop. Currently I keep plugging and unplugging the cable from desktop to laptop each time.

So a noob question: I need a wireless router right? And hope Airtel will provide this upgrade or is it recommended to buy one myself?

wireless routers are quite cheap nowadays even N band ones..so u can buy one..infact a G band router wouldnt cost u more than 1000~1200 bucks
 
Yep just call them up and tell them you need a wifi modem. In some plans they provide it for free i.e. not for ownership but they won't take any rent. In some, they might take Rs80 or so per month.
Or you can buy one yourself.
 
If you're a heavy user i.e. keep the modem on 24/7 then i'd suggest you get it from Airtel itself. It will cost you 1500 bucks. The good thing about that is you don't have to worry about it ever again as if it fails Airtel will just replace it with a new one...

called up Airtel CC this time and they are saying the same, that Airtel has stopped providing hardware starting this June. I asked, in that case whether new customers wont be given a modem; he says he doesn't know as it depends on the sales team and what they promise :S Even if a modem is provided, Airtel would provide only 1 year service for the supplied hardware

Will have to get one myself, I guess. In that case, do i have to call their engineers to configure the new modem for me?
 
you can easily configure it youself you just need to know the VPI/VCI values for airtel... which if i remember correctly are 8/35
