All in one monitor or TV?

Hi friends,
I require an all in one monitor as an additional display for my laptop and later as primary display for my upcoming PC build. As the title suggests, I need this monitor for trading, gaming (latest games but not pro level), casual editing and finally Amazon, Netflix & chilling.

Now, I am confused between a 32 inch FHD TV or a PC monitor. A TV has the best viewing angles and it can also upscale media. It also supports screen casting. But the text (for trading purpose) won't be as sharp as a monitor. I have bad eyes and want eye protection and comfort too.

So, I request the TE community to help me with my dilemma and also suggest a good budget TV or monitor. Budget is around 20k. Can drag upto 30k max.

I know monitor is better for gaming and colour accuracy but it lacks viewing angle. Is there any monitor which has features like good viewing angles, screen casting etc.

PC monitor and TV both works on different level. You can't get a good 'hybrid' currently in the market. There are many pros and cons for each individual category. What purpose you need the most shall decide what you need to buy. Lets say you need more entertainment than work, then go for a TV. Android TV has many features which a Monitor lacks.
I have a 24inch LG monitor that works quite well for work and entertainment. But since I mostly use for work it serves me well. If I needed more entertainment I would definitely got a TV that can connect via wifi and stream contents on inbuilt apps and output a nice sound via bluetooth sound bar.
Although monitor can be made smart via Firestick or such kind of devices, which will add additional costs.

What's the distance you'll be sitting at from the screen? The closer you sit the better it will be if you get a proper PC monitor and not a TV. I'm assuming you will be the primary user of the monitor and people won't be sitting around watching stuff on it so viewing angle shouldn't be that much of a priority.

Grab a good deal on a 24+ inch monitor per your budget is something I can suggest as even if a full-fledged tv offers what monitor does, its not convenient to keep staring at it for working purpose continuously.
Every monitor these days come with 2 hdmi ports som you can even connect the settopbox to it and just toggle with the button.

Yes, I will be the primary user and mostly sit closer to the screen for work purpose. Watching media alone is a bit boring sometimes. So watching of movies occasionally with 2 to 3 viewers is a requirement.

So, I think I should go with 27 or 32 inch (is it suggestable?) monitor. I request to please suggest a good monitor for my requirements. Thank you. I also am planning on building my PC from TE market.

Get a good high refresh rate monitor instead of a TV , the difference is pretty obvious in gaming and general usage . And as @nRiTeCh mentioned, you could always hook it up to a set top box or Apple Tv for that TV experience.

So I will purchase some IPS display monitor (as I saw in some youtube video that IPS is like jack of all trades). Correct me if I am wrong. So, Kindly suggest some good 32 inch IPS monitor (?) at around 20K to 25K.

IPS is good for viewing angles but contrast etc. isn't great when compared to VA. For movies, TV shows etc. where blacks are more important, VA is better. I personally use the Benq EW3270U monitor. 4k resolution with good brightness levels and color reproduction (95% DCI-P3). It's not a high refresh monitor so gaming unfortunately won't be as good.

There are a few models from Viewsonic and even the Samsung G5 monitor is available for around 32k if you're willing to stretch your budget. Probably check out the local stores in your area for a demo and then decide which you like better.

Also, rank the following parameters from most to least important before deciding which one to get:

Resolution: 2k, 4k etc
Refresh rate: 60, 120, 144, 240hz
Color reproduction: sRGB, DCI-P3
Panel type: VA, IPS
Brightness in Nits
Other features: Inbuilt speakers, USB ports, HDMI ports, HDR support etc.

These 3 models come under you budget:

1. LG 32QN650-B
2. LG 32QN600-B
3. ViewSonic VX3276-2K-MHD-2

They all have 2k res and support upto 75 hz. Since you're not into professional or FPS games, 75 hz should be enough.

I am concered about the differnce of chroma subsampling between monitor and tv. You can read more about it here. In short, monitors are better optimized for text compared to TVs.

Thats a great info. I have already made up my mind to go with a good monitor because reading text matters a lot. But now oscillating between VA and IPS. Both have their pros and cons. More inclined towards IPS because the image quality of VA, though it is better than IPS, is not so noticeable unless the room or the image is dark. (YouTube knowledge )
The opinion of people is split between the two. So not able to decide.

I am using TV for my monitor from 2016. Just turn down the sharpness from TV menu and the text will be exactly like monitor. You have to use the TV at the native resolution. If you buy FHD then it should be used with FHD resolution and if 4K it should be used with 4K resolution. You should not use FHD resolution on 4K TV because it will blur everything

Image quality of VA is not better or worse than IPS. Both have their own pros and cons. IPS offers better viewing angles and slightly better colour reproduction while VA offers better contrast. IPS' contrast ratio is around 1200:1 compared to 3000-5000:1 on VA panels. IPS will perform better in well lit rooms but the lack of contrast will be more noticeable in darker rooms where blacks will look dark grey. And vice versa with VA. One isnt better than the other.

Since you are buying a monitor and sitting close to it, the viewing angles wont matter much. 45 degrees on either side from the centre of the display should be fine. Once you start moving more to the sides the image quality will start decreasing. If media consumptions isnt the main use case and you intend to work in a well lit room then IPS would be a better option. For dim/darker rooms some people use ambient leds behind the monitor. This increases the perceived contrast and the blacks on the IPS panel look deeper than they actually are.

Since you are buying a monitor and sitting close to it, the viewing angles wont matter much.

The issue is our TV has become unserviceable and now we have decided not to replace it and go with a monitor. But, I cannot ignore my wife and daughter, so planning an IPS for better viewing experience (Like one movie a day). Also planning to use a Firestick with it. In future, if need arises, a TV may be purchased.

Then consider these options. I would add these to the mix-
Viewsonic VX3219-2K-PRO-2
Acer 32 Inch EB321 HQUD 2K IPS

As usual Acer one is cheaper even with shipping combined. And yes at 32 inch if you want to enjoy movies with your family IPS would be a better option and you can buy some led strip and stick it to the back of the monitor. This would help with perceived contrast.
PS: You might also want to add a soundbar later on. Most monitor speakers are bad...

I too am interested in 4k but they are too expensive. I am looking for around 20k. Can stretch it upto 25k if there are no options.
