PC Peripherals All-in-one Printer?

Thanks Dinesh, right I shall lay interest in HP now!

Thanks Toxic, My confused mind!
I think saving some bucks won't be bad, if its not at the cost of expensive printing/cartridges!
3-5K seems fine for that matter!

BTW, how are the HP AIO's with Fax & Phone?

PS: I really appretiate your talent from being a Phone guru to a Print master!

Hi guys what about a AIO Printer which can print photos also!
I mean photo quality prints.
Please suggest me a low cost AIO + Photo quality.

Thanks

All the AIOs I mentioned can print reasonable photo quality. The most important thing you need for photo quality is the paper.
My F2120 uses the HP21 and HP22 cartridges for normal usage but HP markets the HP58 cartridge specifically for photo printing. I am convinced that the HP22 is good enough for the kind of photos I need to print at home. As I said, the paper is more important.
Going back to your cost of running, HP also sells a cartridge HP21B as a low cost substitute for the HP21. They say that it is value ink. If you source it well it will cost you under Rs 400/-. HP doesn't like to market it strongly because it will eat into the sales of their bread & butter HP21 for which they charge almost Rs 800/-.

Thanks Emil, I've finally decided to go in for a budget AIO Printer i.e 3-4k.
If you could categorise some HP models in this range with cheap/easily refillable cartridges, it would be great.

So I'm assuming you don't need FAX now !?

Anyways,For 3-4K...

HP 4288 ~ 3.6K*

Canon MP145 ~ 3.7K*

Canon MP198 ~ 4.3K*

Very true !!!

canon aio's have the best photo quality AFAIK

Can vouch for that...

Thanks Mohit, Im concentrating on HP now because Im going to use it with HP laptop & believe HP's service is good, dumb reasons I know!

Thanks Toxic, you are the undisputed prices champion!

@Emil, Im getting your point about refilling HP 21/22 series cartridges now!
I inquired from a dealer, HP2235 is available with him, I might buy this one over latest 4288 on your suggestions.
BTW, both cost the same!
Any last minute thoughts/suggestions or alternative models?

As I said, your options in that bracket are:

F2235

F4185

F2120

They are all so similar.

The F2235 and F4185 are white. The F2120 is black.

Prices are similar too. All in the ~3500 range. I got my F2120 for Rs 3490/- less Rs 500 discount on ebay.

They all use HP21/22.

I think I already mentioned that HP21 has a HP21B variant which costs much less and can also be used in place of the HP21. HP doesn't tell you up front about it. When a HP dealer quoted me a high price for a HP21 I told him a friend was getting it much cheaper. So he responded by saying that must be HP21B. Naturally I pumped him for more info on this.

HP has a decent combo price for HP21/22 when purchased together.

Finally, HP has HP21 and HP22 in a XL variant which costs about 50% higher but has about 150% higher capacity. The big advantage with this is that your normal friendly refiller fills it to capacity regardless of size. So go on and calculate how much ink you get for that Rs 50/- refill when you use the XL variant. :)

If you manage to get hold of an older Canon model before they switched to the PG40/CL41 then consider it. But I don't think you'll get one now.

teche, I am using F4185 right now, its real VFM, with HP 21/22 catridges, refill and print its cheeeap really cheap...! and refilling is very very easy..

@all lil OT can any one suggest good quality inks, my second set of ink cartridges are empty, any particular company to buy, I need both colour and black ink..

Thanks again Emil, its clear in the head now, Im going to choose one among the 3 & save some more pennies later on refilling!

Thanks Setu, you have reaffirmed what Emil said, my mind is made on one of these!

And what makes it easier is that only one of these will be widely available...

I found all three were quite easily available in Mumbai at least. Though none of the dealers listed by HP will offer you any of these to begin with. They want to sell you the F4288 and keep you hooked with the HP818 series cartridges. :eek:hyeah:

Here in Chennai, it's a different story...
At times, they don't tend to have the model you want to buy, so you need to have backup/alternate options :(

Hi guys, On your advice, Im going in for one out of the 3:
HP F2235/ F4185 / F2120.

Any idea about the differences between the 3, apart from the colors!

I am looking for a color AIO with good/fast scanning capabilities.

Fax is not a must.

Mostly needed for printing documents - very few or almost nil photos

Monthly <100 pages

cheap refill/cartages

will prefer HP

Budget <8k.

any suggestions??

How do you find the picture quality? On mine, it's horrible with all kind of colour mixing. It's good for plain text but contrary to a review I'd read, I can say with confidence that this model is just for budget printing. Oh, and the HP software is bloatware.

But, it serves my purpose. I bought it because I liked that it was the most compact AIO that I'd seen at the time and the paper feed and print output is on the same side.

IMO, it would be better to put a few hundred rupees and get a better HP AIO if size is not a constraint.

saw the thread a bit late...recently brought a HP J4580 AIO, some of the things that i observed-

*HP cartridge 901 color and black are not readily available in the refill market which this AIO uses( iam referring to Bangalore)

* the cartridges that came with the AIO depleted very fast...i.e. less than 5o prints.

* i refilled the cartridges myself.....was fine till suddenly the color cartridge started giving errors though i could hardly find any physical damage on the same.

* as sydras truly said the software on it is blotware to the core...utter crap...i think th print drivers constitute only 10% of the software size

* have had issues with ADF....documents get stuck very easily...

* fax and scanner wont work if you have no cartridges installed....with no cartridges the printer refuses to move ahead of the error pages.

...by the way the print quality is quite good....i am an architect and print 500+ prints on it per month...but would have used it more if not for the refill cartridge availability problems...

hope the info helps.

Hi, I was wondering how do the AIO's with fax & phone perform? Because I need a phone also.
Is coping/scanning difficult in non flat bed scanners?

*AFAIK the 901 series cartridges are very economical in terms of cost per page without the need for refilling.
*For all HP printers/AIOs the cartridges that come with the device are demo cartridges with just 2-3 ml capacity.
*Don't bother to refill the demo cartridge because of the small capacity. Unless you are using them to practice refilling.
*Don't throw them away if you intend using refilled cartridges. In some HP models, you have to fool the printer to accept refilled cartridges as new. The demo cartridge will come in handy for that.
