PC Peripherals All-in-one Printer?

Because I need a phone also.

I personally think it would be a big mistake to buy a AIO with fax just because of the phone.
Reasons?
1. The extent to which the cost is pushed up, you could buy several phone instruments in the price.
2. Failure of any one of the functions renders you handicapped. This is a basic disadvantage of AIOs. I can live with that when scanner and printer are integrated in a price far less than the cost of buying them separate. But adding the cost of the fax feature just for the phone is risk addition without any advantage.

Just my opinion.

Thanks a lot Emil, as always, aren't you a storehouse of info!

Ok idea of AIO with fax & phone is dumped!

I would need to scan books at times, so as you said flatbed would help.

I have recently bought HP F4288 AIO. I am confused after reading this thread. Is their any problem with this printer?

Please share your view.

*AFAIK the 901 series cartridges are very economical in terms of cost per page without the need for refilling.
*For all HP printers/AIOs the cartridges that come with the device are demo cartridges with just 2-3 ml capacity.
*Don't bother to refill the demo cartridge because of the small capacity. Unless you are using them to practice refilling.
*Don't throw them away if you intend using refilled cartridges. In some HP models, you have to fool the printer to accept refilled cartridges as new. The demo cartridge will come in handy for that.

thanx for the info Emil!!!!but the printer is already giving error messages for both the Introducorty cartridges!!! i feel Hp put something into plce to reject refilled cartridges in this(or maybe newer) models....thats why all those cartridge error messages....

No problem. It is quite a decent AIO. The only issue is that the 818 series cartridges don't refill so well as the older HP21/22.

Not sure about this particular series. You will have to google for the info.
I am aware that in the case of some HP cartridges atleast, the printer stores the identity of the last 2 or 3 cartridges used. That is why, if you just refill the last cartridge, the ink status will continue to show empty. There are methods to fool the printer into thinking several cartridges have been changed. This involves masking some of the contacts in turn.
That is why I suggest you buy a new cartridge but don't discard the demo one. When your new cartridge is refilled at a later date, the demo will come in handy to cycle into the printer so you make the printer accept you refilled high capacity cartridge.
I hope you got my point. When you refill your next cartridge, you first put in the old demo cartridge (even if it is empty). That will advance the count in the printer. Then mask off the contacts in the same demo cartridge to advance the count further. After advancing by about 3 counts, your refilled cartridge identity will overflow out of your printer's memory and it will accept it without a problem.
I must say again that the 901 series is known for its low running cost so you may not need to refill at all.
