Ok this is the problem i got...

You c i hav video of some guy dancing in absolutely black background...

Now what i need is a way to cut the black thing out or change it into something which merges with the background i plan to use...

I got the Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium.. n the usual movie maker n stuff...

Please suggest a nice and preferably cheap way out.....

Thanks

Download time-trial for Premiere Element, it has basic keying tools, for your to remove black background. If you want something more than basic, then download trial version of Premiere Pro.

After Effects is much better for some advance stuff, but learning curve could be steeper depending on your expertise in this field.

okie... after effects it is then...

thanks...

now who will guide me how to use it is another question......

It is going to be very difficult to remove a black background by keying it out, you will most likely need to rotoscope it using the bezier pen tool to create a mask. This is quite complicated stuff for a newbie. one thing you could try is to use a duplicate of the original layer to create a black and white alpha channel.

hmm....

i was just wondering if i convert the video to an image sequence and then cut out the black background using select by color fr all images in AE...( long process i know)... will it work fine??

import the footage into after effects

make a composition from it with the same frame rate and res

put the footage on the timeline, then copy the layer to make two layers of the same footage one on top of the other

disable the visibility on the top layer

look for the option on the lower layer for keying and set it to 'luma key'(should be there next to the name of the layer with a few other options) this will by default look for black regions in the rgb channel of the layer above it and set it to transparent on this layer.

now put whatever you want as the bg below the 2nd layer and it will show instead of the black area

if there are problems with the edge or u want to adjust how mch area is keyed out then use 'mattte choker' effect on the lower layer

oh and don't for get to make the top layer black and white(not grey scale)i.e it shd have only the colour black and pure white. one way to do this is to play with the 'levels' (look for it in the effects). if you don't do this then although AE will cut out the black region completely from 2nd layer, it will also make areas on the layer transparet according to the darkness of the other colours...

hey thanks a tonne banda... u seem to b really good at ae...

will try out n let u know if it worked..(though i don really c y it wont)

ok buddy i tried wat u said but it doesnt work...

please explain after the luma effect n yea wat exactly do u mean "bg below the 2nd layer"

hmm.. thanks for ur help guys but none of what u said worked....

@banda : ur given procedure produces a tinted part of the video.. does not giv proper color....

@zhopudey : keylight does not work for black backgrounds.. the background has to be atleast a shade of green or blue...

@PiXeLpUsHeR : buddy i have no clue what u said... :P

neways if ne1 else sees this and hav a similar prob... do this...

Just import the video in AE, create a composition, use color key effect n using the color picker clik on the background.... doesnt give u a very sharp effect but if u play a bit with the properties u can create a glow-kinda effect which actually looks cooler than it would look without it.. else use a dark background to almost nullify the effect....
