Dear Admins and Mods and Peons,

I request you to make it compulsory that a trader or a show-stopper (:P) whenever post pictures which are uploaded at image hosting websites like imageshack.us etc etc to post the thumbnail images and are not the high resolution pictures because it irritates a lot when we don't have 24-32inch LCD screens to see 4-10 megapixel resolution pictures even when we don't want to.

I hope many are with me for what I have said... :@

its ridiculous, post only thumbnail if someone wanna see the pic jus click it and see whole biggie one in new window.. !

for example - http://www.techenclave.com/market/fs-few-items-136532.html i cant see the post coz it keeps scrolling when I want to see what he is selling, coz i just need to read text then I need to press escape to stop loading of the page... why to waste bandwidth which is so expensive in india :P

my 2 cents.

I am all for auto-infractions followed by auto-bans for anyone who posts full sized images above a reasonable thumbnail size :D

Pictures upto 1024*768 resolution is actually fine. If you want post the HQ pictures it better be a thumbnail link.

Edit : who are the Peons here :P ?

Saiyan, thats what I'm saying re...

1024 will be resized according to the web browser resolution due to that vbmod which has been put up.

even bigger pics than that gets resized, but why post so high high res pics...rather give thumbnail.

someone just sometimes need to check price and then check pics if interested.. lol

^Amen to that. Someone had posted a friggin' 8MP image for a tube of MX2 on the Everyday Show-off thread. God damn it, the thing brought down my bandwidth to its knees. :@

pls provide link, i'll put it as example LOL

Yes please,

Request you to discuss with your technical IT Department and not the HRD or Finance or Mkting department.

Where is by the way Tech Enclave corporate HQ ? :P

I agree with the OP, even while I'm 22" monitor... it's pain in the behind to see crappy cellphone picture larger than 2000x2000 pixels on screen. 1024x768 is good enough size, but many of us don't bother resizing their pictures, instead they post them as it is. It's load on bandwidth, it's inconvenient on page viewing.

Thumbs only === bad idea.

Too many large pics = annoying at times but honestly its not like most people are stuck on dialup these days.

There are free addons to block images. use them if you dont want to see pics and just check prices. Most of those horrible cellphone pics are large on resolution but small on size as they are from cellphones and not from digicams. So they load quickly anyway.

Maybe restriction on more than 2MP images be a good idea, but forcing thumbs wont achieve anything good in modern age. People like others to see what they want to show them :P

Little understanding on both sides is needed. Creating rules for every small things is just not practical.

I feel that rather than put an image dimension restriction like what the op has stated, there should be an image size restriction.

An optimized jpeg / gif of 1680 x 1050 can bring down the size to 200-300 kb which is not by any chance huge compared to an unoptimized blurry phone cam snap of the same res.

I can post examples if you want.

And you don't even need photoshop for it. Just open the image in mspaint and save as a 56k optimized jpeg.

Its too much of a hassle to click thumbnails unless you are posting a whole gallery of pics. A show off is supposed to be laden with pics. What do you expect?

Its time to change over from a 56k diallup if you feel it hinders your internet experience :P

fwiw, even I don't appreciate worthless bandwidth hoggers and being on a limited bandwidth plan and to save some, i use adblock plus and css to block avatars, sigs and ads :ohyeah:

I don't believe such an innocuous thing as this deserves an infraction. Taking this infraction thing a bit too far aren't we? :)

if it becomes a rule then infraction is not a problem.

and many image hosts provide liberty to the user to resize the pics even if its of higher pixel .. like imageshack.us ... moreover we are saying go ahead upload 5-10megapixel..we dont mind... but post the thumbnails..

hmmm I suggest something like ,

compulsory thumbnails for images above particular size/resolution. the particular size.resolution can be decided by the mods/admins or a public vote :)

there is no problem with smaller images like 1024 x 768 .

i use Mihov resizer utility to resize my 5mp image to 900x900. I know its too much a pain but cmon, they load faster ;)

+1 to limit the sizes of images added. I sure anyone selling anything or showing off anything can do with a 1024 width (max) or 1024 height (max) image.

Anything bigger is overkill and not required.
