'peaceful' from alternative rock? as in some tracks that are easy on ears? since offspring doesn't sound peaceful to me even though anberlin does. :P
listen to vertical horizon,everything you want is their best album,all 'peaceful' music there.:)

no.. well.. essentially they seem to be garage-punk but since they aren't associated with any major record label and lotta peeps generalize them as indie cuz of their independent music

ok most of the bands listed here are not alternative or the op dsnt knw what alternative is .. U2 , coldplay lifehouse ,creed , keane are not alternative ..
 
Check out some Progressive bands like

Liquid Tension Experiment (if your into Dream Theater its a treat)

Porcupine Tree.

Also check out The Postal Service, its a side project of Benjamin Gibbard from the band Death Cab for Cutie.Very very unique blend of alternative+electronic.
 
^^ Speaking of some unique sounds and alternative+electronic do checkout m83, they have this rock+electronic thing going on which even appealed to trance listeners like me :D (Also check out their song "Sitting" - High energy synths+guitars).

look up on wikipedia,some of those bands you pointed out are also classified as alternative:P ,many bands can't be classified into a single category,overlapping is simply unavoidable with all the different types of music.
