Anyone knows an alternative to Flyte? It's sad that Flipkart shut it down (my only source for getting legal music). Know that iTunes available now, but all downloads are in m4a format which my car player doesn't support.

I download mainly Gospel music, I really wish we got a legal online music store in India for international music. Tried mp3eVa but am not okay with the sound quality despite their relatively low price. Anyone?

Can't you convert those m4a to mp3 which your car player will support ?
Did that, but theres nothing like that 320kbps I downloaded from Flyte. Those were good quality. Now, the m4a from itunes were of 250kbps, good quality if they were played in players (my phone, pmp etc), but converting again from lossy to lossy, I think its not justified for the money I paid, ya know. I just wish there were good online digital music stores at affordable price accessible from india:confused:

Yeah, nothing like flyte store to download mp3 legally in India. Wonder how much money is required to open such a site?
People will gladly pay few hundred rupees if you give high quality content to them.

@OP

I had stopped using Flyte of late as I was lucky enough to get a free one year "unlimited" sub to the Nokia music service when I bought a Nokia a couple of months ago. Service is decent enough. Music is DRM Free and in 256Kb .mp3 format.

Similarly, Sony has their "Jive" music service running in India but IIRC, its restricted to Xperia users only. Nokia may well be the same. You will have to check to find out.

One thing I like about the Nokia music store is that most English international albums/singles are released on virtually day one on the site. However the service does have its drawbacks. Speeds are very inconsistent, many popular bands are completely missing and the download client is not very good.

However, free is free. The first month alone I downloaded 40+ Gigabytes of music.

ATM, my Nokia music download directory is a whopping 84 GB! ;)

The number of people ready to pay for music are being outnumbered by the number of "non payers" as more and more people take to smartphones and Internet in India.

Some days back there was news circulating about a Music World outlet (very popular landmark) in Park Street Calcutta getting shut down due to piracy (so they claim). This was a Facebook update so don't know how true it is.

Don't know who would be brave enough to offer music digitally.

Thanks guys for the help. Yeah, it looks like we're going to wait for some more time until Amazon or someone coming up with something. If only iTunes offers mp3 320kbps download option which doesn't seem to happen anytime soon or never at all :(

Music world in Bangalore had shut down more than 5 years ago and I don't know how long even Planet M will hold on unless it's shifting focus on Gadgets selling is doing well

Just noticed that Amazon offers only 256K (VBR/Constant depending on title) bitrate mp3 files now. This bitrate is locked at 256K even for their "matched music" service.

I could have sworn that at some point in the past they offered 320K bitrate files for purchase?

Still, at least one wont have to convert them so I guess that would be a plus...

Bumping this thread up. I read somewhere that the Nokia music store will be available on Nokia mobiles only or will be closing down soon in coming future.

I tried searching for a legal site to download music from, but came up blank. Seems that online sites are selling music CD's only now. No more mp3's.
Anyone have any luck? Any site in India where we can pay a monthly rental and stream music?
I tried TataSky paid audio service from hungama, but audio quality is worse than 64Kbps. Tried saavn (on Android), but didn't like audio quality in it too. Seems all streaming sites have really horrible ear damaging quality.

Blackberry world has a music store with a decent collection of music, its pricier than iTunes though. Wonder what's powering it.

Now am using Nokia Store (3 months free subscription) and iTunes. No other option yet. I wish Amazon opened up their MP3 Store here too.
