CPU/Mobo Alternatives for i3-2100 for gaming.

How much do you think will I get if I sell my current system?

Samsung SyncMaster 540n

Intel Pentium 4 @ 2.60 ghz.

512 mb ram.

Gigabyte 8I845GVMRZ

Very Recently changed PSU.

These are not listed anywhere online but i guess they will be 1000 to 1500 costly so not worthy of that price tag

But it supports 6gb/s transfer and usb 3.0.

I will recommend this system if you have hdd already

DELL 1709W 4000

Core i5 2400 10500

Asus/MSI/Biostar H61 3000

Corsair RAM 1333 4 GB 1000

Seasonic 430W 80+ B 2500

6770 6900

Generic Cabinet 1000

Sony / LG DVD 900

29800

Slight modification to the above RIG --

Intel Core i3 2100 ~6200/- [the overall gaming performance of the Sandy-bridge processors Core i5 and Core i3 are similar enough to warrant purchase of the former until you plan to do some heavy work on your PC --> http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/289?vs=363, check the gaming benches the Core i3 is not wanting in performance]

ASUS / Gigabyte H61 based motherboard ~3500/-

Corsair ValueRAM 4GB ~1200/-

Seasonic S12II 430W ~3100/-

AMD HD 5770 ~6000/- [the price performance of the HD 5770 is better than the HD 6770 as well as they are the same card, over-clock the HD 5770 and you'll be comfortable for most games for this year]

Dell IN2030M ~6300/- [I think a 17" monitor is too small for gaming these days as well as I doubt they are widescreen, so the games will conflict with the low resolution]

NZXT Gamma ~2500/- OR Cooler Master eLite 370 ~1900/- [a good cabinet with airflow is better than a PC choked with dust and heating up to god-forsaken levels, my personal recommend will be that OP goes with the Gamma]

LG / Samsung OEM DVD drives ~1100/-

If possible, get a H67 motherboard #amithkallupalam, preferably the Intel DH67-BL ~5800/- OR MSi H67MA-E35 ~4800/- [under budgetary constraints],

also as usual I reiterate that getting 1600MHz RAM in conjunction with the H67 chipset will be a better deal, but I leave the end decision with you OP. Cheers!!

This was my previous config.

And the asus motherboards I suggested before have uefi boot system so I can install windows 8 when it releases...... If I stick with h67, should I get msi or intel? Since Ill only be having 8gb ram, I dont need the extra two ram slots.

Sire, do not I reiterate, do not buy a Zebronics cabinet, they have poor construct quality, no airflow so to speak of.

I suggest if you are on a shoe-string budget, invest in atleast the Cooler Master eLite 310 ~1550/- OR Cooler Master eLite 370 ~1900/-. If you can spend upto ~2500/-, the NZXT Source Elite 210 outperforms both the Cooler Master eLite's ~2600/- http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/nzxt_source_210/ / http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NZXT/Source_210_Elite/6.html.

Hope this helps, Cheers!!

Ok thanks #ALPHA17, I have an hcl cabinet for mATX motherboard. Will I be okay if I use that?

Other wise ill get the coolermaster elite 310

^^ Can you upload a couple of pictures, interiors as well as exterior, how many fan mounting points does it have?

^^ The blue accents appeal to me, orange is fine too.

Red and Green well they look fugly to me so nuff said.

What about the silver? I like the cyan blue colour. Its pretty exotic! Orange is fine too I guess!

Check out the pics!

The PSU says it supports upto 450w so would I need a new psu? If I can save that money I can buy better stuff.

^^ Is that a micro-ATX board inside there OR full?

The cabinet doesn't have much to say for airflow [just like the Cooler Master eLite], but there is no provision for cable routing either.

Suggest you get the eLite 370 ~1900/- cabinet OR NZXT Source eLite 210 ~2100/- http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NZXT/Source_210_Elite/. As for the SMPS change that as well, it is a local OEM piece I doubt if it churns out more than ~300W at max.

Hope this helps, Cheers!!

Get any LG / Samsung OEM piece [they are cheaper than box pieces] ~1000/-

The AMD mid-range will release sometime in March, currently the HD 7970 is available for ~35000/- and HD 7950 will come Mid-February.

Ok the thing is that I might get my computer before march so can I expect a price decrease on the hd5770 by then? And If so, I would be able to get a better card..

I think by march Prices of HD6XXX series will drop,so no need to get 5770 then, you might get hd6850-7-8k by then.
