CPU/Mobo Alternatives for Sabertooth P67 B3

For the board, I would go with Deluxe only if the price is not uber bloated (less than 17k or maybe even 17.5k, but no more ). Otherwise, I am fine going with P8P67 Pro as well. My preference order is Sabertooth, Deluxe and then Pro.

As for CPU, I am mostly looking at a 2500k, but might go with a 2600k depending on how the price diff is. Lets just say that my budget for CPU + Board is 30~32k. In any case, 2500k/2600k CPU's also seem to be widely available with most of the dealers.

Any way, I have also inquired about the Deluxe/Pro that I found on eBay and found that they are imported pieces without local warranty.

Thanks for the heads up sire!

@Gannu: Yup 2500 it is for me. And if the ram is also part of the equation then I'll go for a 2x2 G.Skill Ripjaws 1600, The same I have right now to make 2x2x2x2 (I presume that still works as dual channel setup).

Someone asked.......

Just want the mobo, any of them is fine for me...even the vanilla P8P67 is plenty for me, was thinking of getting the Deluxe or the PRO, but then thought I rather put the money on a new GPU or SSD or something than get a higher end board and never use the features....my last 2 boards had SLI but I never even thought of another card....I just want to have 8 SATS ports, and a good OC board, which is in all the ASUS boards, so no issue for me....The cheapest for me, though I love the light on the heatsink on the delux, I am not willing to pay 5K extra just for that.

^^ I have got more than a bunch of PC games in my backlog. :P Darn It, I have a lot of moolah piled up for the upgrades, but can't start because of unavailability of these motherboards.

Anyways, If you find any info on availability post back here. I am ready to pounce on a P8P67 Deluxe or even a Gigabyte P67A-UD7 (if its under 21k) if I can find one.
I guess I saw P67A-UD7 board with SMC, have you tried contacting them??? It should be below 20K according to Gigabyte.

UD7's with a new BIOS that came out yesterday have been hitting 5.8/5.9G :O

@Lord, if you saw issues with the GD65, you haven't seen enough :D
Most forums are full of complaints/niggles about the Asus boards. Nothing major but small annoyances like double booting and stuff.

Also, to whoever thinks that availability in the US is awesome, you need to recheck facts :P
P67 boards are sold out everywhere. Even when they DO come back in stock, they get sold out within hours if not faster. my p67-M Pro was sold out 20 minutes after I snuck my order in.

Also, I don't really see any point behind spending the extra 5K to jump from a 2500K to a 2600K. HT translates to 15-20% improvement in performance at best, and is again limited to applications that can actually use it. a 30% premium in price for barely 10-15% performance increase, across the board, seems wasteful.

I dont think UD7 has any extra feature that will allow those clocks which other boards cannot.(though there is a beta bios which can allow more than 1.7V) Basically its all chip dependent. If your chip can, even Asrock mobos will allow you to clock 5.8-5.9Ghz, :P. Basically my point is for overclocking there is no specific board which has an advantage over the other.

How much do you pay to make the performance jump of 10-15 percent for FPS? or that final 10-15% increase?

Think about it, a 570GTX+15% is pretty much more than a 580GTX, and it does cost about 30% more....

Performance increase and Cost increase NEVER go hand in hand, the last few percentages of performance ALWAYS takes a premium, thats just how it is....even I don't like it. :-(

Best to let the person with the cash decide what his applications are and how much performance they would like, at the top end of performance there really is nothing know as VFM.

Here is the response from Prime:

Dear sir,

Following are the details as required by you.

Asus P8P67 Pro B3 = 12200/-= COMING in 2 DAYS

Asus P8P67 Deluxe B3= 15500/-= COMING in 2 DAYS

Gigabyte P67A UD7 B3 = NOT AVIL COMING in 5 to 6 days

Core i5 2500K = 12700/-

G.Skill Ripjaws-X - 2x4GB DDR3 1600MHz CL9 RAM = XL SERAEIS AVI L 1333 2GB X 2GB = 2950/-

Thermalright Socket 1156 bolt-through kit= 500/-

The CPU seems to be overpriced. They say 2 days' time for the newer B3 boards. We'll see.

^I think they might have the entire Asus range after 2 days. Probably stocks from Asus is expected then.

Thanks for leading the crusade against unavailability Gannu!

So is it a GO or do we choose our path leading towards Prime? If its a GO how do we go about it? As of now I am game for the above mentioned combo (pro).

Ummm sarang, there's no such thing as a crusade against unavailability - just helping fellow members interested in sourcing the stuff. :P

I suggest you source the RAM and processor from SMC - I have just sent him a PM for the rates and account details. If Prime can source the boards, we shall ask them to have it listed on ebay. Sounds like a deal?

Gskill Sandy Bridge 8GB 1600Mhz DDR3 4GB X 2

Intel Core i5 2500K Sandy Bridge

--- Updated Post - Automerged ---

Sucks! SMC just responded to the PM saying Ripjaws X isn't available. :(

Gannu, i asked SMC about
Gskill Sandy Bridge 8GB 1600Mhz DDR3 4GB X 2
They replied saying it was out of stock and they would only provide normal Ripjaw series.. So i was thinking of getting the 2*2gb 1600mhz ripjaws for 2,500/-..
Did you ask them about the Ripjaws X being in stock?

^It is even fine if they have the normal Ripjaws - my take is, both the Ripjaws and Ripjaws-X have the same PSC chips beneath the heatspreaders. G.Skill has slapped just another fancy heatspreader rebranded for the SNB lineup.

I have asked him regarding the stock. I'll pick up the usual Ripjaws as well. No harm there. :)

Yash: m driving to Mumbai on Friday and will be back on Sunday night. M driving for some other work as well and can collect anything from Prime for you as I will be going there as well if they get the P8P67 by Saturday and if it is still in stock.

That is horrible english...I dont think I can think any more...to much hunting for SB parts...m brain is lost....

No problem dude it makes no difference to me more than glad to help out...just get me the money before I leave :-) and you guys will have to collect 'em from my house in Kalyani Nagar...Will ask him for individual bills too....just hope it is available thats all...

That's supercool! YGPM

I'd suggest you guys to pick up the processor from SMC. I got one sometime back with a pair of Ripjaws modules. Pretty good rate nonetheless.

Will wait for the board. Sucks. :|
