^^
That is weird behavior by SMC being such reputed dealers of Nehru Place. Did they give you the reason/logic why then want you to deal directly with Intel...? Also have you sent them any written communication about RMA. Your cut-off date is approaching. 28th. Be careful, these dealers love to play within loop-holes and expand.

^Have sent them 2 PMs - no response. Probably because the weekend has kicked in. I'd mention this in the feedback thread once I do not get a response tomorrow. If I do get a positive response, I'll take back my word.

Intel is known to prolong replacements which is what worries me more. :(

^^ I guess by giving you a replacement, they would loose one CPU from their existing stock and thus a potential purchase till the time they get a replacement from Intel. I thought with SMC's experience and repute in the market, they would be better than to aggravate an existing customer over such a trivial thing.

^I thought the same but wouldn't Intel give them a replacement via Redington or whoever the distri is? I saw Redington's import sticker on the present box.

Yes, but I guess they don't want to loose the potential for an immediate sale and immediate profit, even at the expense of loosing an existing customer and the potential business that he may bring them in the future. I ordered most of my stuff from them (amounts to 58k so far) and was going to order more (another 50k worth). I hope this is not the kind of after sales support I can expect from them. If that is how they deal with DOA, I would rather get the rest of the stuff from some other dealer.

If I had know about your situation earlier, I wouldn't have ordered the GPU's from them either. I already had another source for purchasing the cards. The only reason I went with SMC is because I was expecting better after sales support.

Gannu, send them an email also. Either to their website (if they have the provision) or to their contact mail ID from your gmail box. You would need proper documentation when you started the RMA proceedings. Also, in the case if SMC totally denies processing of your request, what will you have to do to garner a positive replacement directly from Intel. Asking this, cause I never have had to RMA any major component, apart from eBay quality cables and such.

Totally unnerving, seeing the type of amounts you guys are transacting with SMC. How do other dealers handle this -- Prime, Delta types.

As far as I am concerned, SMC is not going to get any further business from me till Ganesh's issue has been resolved and I am myself satisfied with what I have purchased so far. I had placed 12k worth of stuff in my cart at SMC's site just yesterday evening which I was going to convert that into an order tomorrow, but that is not going to happen now.

I had mostly dealt with Amarbir in the past and there was not one occasion when I needed after sales support and Amarbir failed to deliver on that front be it a case of DOA or a replacement after 2 years of purchase.

DOA in any case implies that you get instant replacement from the dealer. Its only when you have been using something for 2~3 months and something conks off that you can approach the distributor. In most cases, you cannot even approach the distributor directly with in the first month. They would just redirect you to the retail dealer.

^Ajay hold on until we get a response from SMC. They wouldn't want to lose us as customers either. I've personally been to their shop in NP since 2005 (whenever I've visited Delhi), purchased a couple of GPUs, assembled an entire PC once. They were pretty good back then.

I do not want to go through this ordeal again. Will definitely keep this thread updated on the same.

^ Tough Luck- the mobo replacement would have been faster had it been DOA.

It has been so rare to get a DOA processor that i can't even recollect the last time someone on TE got one.

Hope you get your replacement soon- All the best. :)

The amount you might have saved in getting the processor earlier might be easily lost in the total shipping costs borne for testing/RMA?

That is one reason that no matter how seemigly reputed an online store and the bit lower price, i have learnt and suggest that it's better to stick to stores with proven repute, preferably local ones, as much as possible.

Though in your case it might have been unavoidable as you had no option mostly due to your current location?

p.s. confusious says- Reputation is an illusion till it is time to be accountable for the same.

It LIVES :O

this would be the worst possible piece of publicity that SMC would want , to deny you a cpu will put a big dent in their rating in this forum and the members to say the least , hope they wake up and send your replacement in this week , even i am putting off the purchases to SMC till this gets sorted

Guys guys - relax. :P

I am not completely blaming SMC until I get a positive response from them on Monday. Let's hope for the best. I do not want their reputation tarnished either. :)

Would SMC have behaved in the same fashion if Gannu had purchased it personally in person, and realized at home it is DoA. I just hope/pray not.

Gannu, we all are waiting for the verdict. I think they will do the RMA.

Boy, you're being too good to them in this regard. Any reputed dealer would not even have tried to pull such a stunt. Did they know you're from TE? If so, it makes it all the more bad :S

Heh I know. I've told them whatever I had to. Let us see if they can be kind to give us a replacement. I'm waiting until tomorrow.

gannu dont be good and be taken for a ride! they dont have to do favours for you , you got a DOA and they have to replace it !!

@Ganesh, don't wait for reply to emails. Call them up and talk to them over phone. That is what I have done so far when ever I had to get clarification for something.

Yep! Was just about to post the same. Their intention was different. Nvm now that they have secured our trust again. :)

^^ Good to hear that. Thanks to SMC for retaining the and trust and goodwill that we placed on them when we chose to order our goods from them. I guess I will proceed with my 12k order (2TB HDD + 60GB SSD) that I have pending in their cart. :P
