Lord Nemesis, how much is that SSD costing you from SMC. Will that be enough for Win7 OS. Specially after it starts to bloat+the rest of chipset drivers and/or mandatory C: installers. Of course not games and widgets/applications.

^^SSD (Corsair F60) is 7.4k. Should be enough as I don't intend to install any thing other than the OS on it. I currently have my windows 7 install on a 50GB partition. A 60GB SSD should work out to 52~54GB of usable space.

why not get a slightly bigger ssd? it makes a lot of sense if you play games, you can install the games you play regularly or the newer 1's on the ssd as it makes a huge difference in loadtimes & some other areas

^^ Maybe I should have gone with 120Gig, but its too late now (Most likely Package already en-route). In any case, I have a WD 640GB AAKS drive for the games.

Update!

Good news: Got the replacement processor from SMC and it worked. Many thanks to SMC for the flawless communication and delivery. Previously there was some misunderstanding since they had asked me to get the chip replaced from Intel directly - their intention was to reduce the lead time for the replacement.

Bad news: One of the Ripjaws modules went kaput!

With the 2 sticks on the slots, the system wasn't booting. Then when I happened to touch the heatspreaders of the sticks, one of them was HOT. Immediately removed the stick and then the system booted fine. One of them went kaput - no clue why.

My SNB build has become one of the depressing ones. First the processor, now the RAM sticks. :'(

Any-hoo got myself a Transcend 2GB 1333MHz stick from a nearby shop and the system booted fine. Have to get the RAM modules replaced now. Will begin Cryshit 2 today. :P

Did you make sure that the RAM sticks went all the way in and properly aligned while installing? May be the DIMM got short circuited due to misalignment. The single side clip design that Asus uses for RAM slots is a major PITA. It does more harm than good. It would have been great if Asus had struck to the traditional design of having two clips on either side.

^Yeah I did. I am sure I did it the right way. But yeah Asus should have stuck to the traditional design of clips on both sides rather than a single side. :(

Nvm that I got myself a spare stick yesterday and all went fine.

Yeah I know. This build has been the one of the frustrating ones I've come across.

Nvm at least the system is up and running. :)

these are frustrating reasons i have given up on assembling pcs thesedays. i used to like doing it earlier but now it makes more sense to just pay 250rs to prime for assembling the system with all the wiring and cable management done by them perfectly.

Oh I never knew Prime assembles the system as well. That's a good option for 250 Rs.

But it kills the joy of assembling the system. More so sometime instances like mine, when it really gets frustrating to zero down to the problem if something goes wrong. Troubleshooting will kill it literally. :(

Sad to hear this, really. I think this will be the 3rd courier you will be sending back. Motherboard, CPU, and now the RAMs. Over that you had to spend more on average RAM to get the boy to boot...! Yea, I never like those single clip DIMM slots. Some how the retention mechanism is based on the friction between slot+chip. Might cause slight issues during chip-creep.

Anyways enjoy some Cry2. Do not laugh at the AI. :)

I know why. You will need to hang lemon with chilli inside the cabbie to ward off all the evil spirtis!! :bleh:

Seriously it does affect the joy of assembling a system!! But since now its up and running, all can be forgiven. Enjoy ur gaming :)

these gskill sticks are infamous for a high failure rate

did you get a replacement yet mate

^Not yet. I've sent it to SMC. Should be here by the weekend or lately next Monday.

I will stick to G.Skill though. They've been very faithful (minus the DOA cases). Right from the Conroe days when I had the 2GBHZ kit.

Finally, all iz well. :D

Got the replacement sticks from SMC today and installed them. Working absolutely fine. :)

But I haven't seen any improvements over the previous 2GB stick I had. :ashamed: Maybe the applications I use (read games) do not make use of the extra RAM.

Good to hear that. Now post some OC and Benching results. :P
