Linux Amarok 2 - Whats wrong with audio & linux?

Hmm, don't think any of them will satisfy with the exception of the wannabe fb2k 'falf player'.

There is the same problem with other platforms as well. You can never be certain whether later versions will be as sleek as earlier ones, its always a trying time when new stuff gets put in and its so jarring when one is used to doing things in the old way. I experience this with another player on a regular basis, tho usually the devs manage to outdo themselves and you kinda go along with it after a bit.

Upgraded Amarok 2.3

Main improvements are the main toolbar(Play,Pause,Next,Previous and Volume control) is less cluttered and more organized. But I would little cumbersome to use the round volume control. After using it for sometime I realized its lot easier to "click" instead holding the mouse button and try to drag. And Good old equalizer makes a come back in this version.

I finally learned to correctly use Dynamic Playlists, I would say its lot powerful than Smart playlist.

Lastly, I just wish. they would include theming support and Broswing by Album Covers(itunes?).

Look up the meaning of "dynamic" then look up "playlist" then put 2 and 2 together :D (or maybe its just their marketingspeak)

Lol, i know that, but the app I use allows to accurately specify the parameters and the proportion in smartlists already.

What's annoying actually is it says 'match a certain proportion' so that implies some randomness or even looseness. This behaviour i think is what they attribute to 'dynamic'.

What is a dynamic playlist ?

This should help:

Same, I don't like randomness. so I always more the slider to 100% to get results based on preset condition(s) I have entered. This saves me time to search my entire music library

It says there ..

If you've tried this in Amarok, especially if you have a larger collection, you may have realized that it doesn't work well

So you won't want to use random in this case. Where random works reasonabaly is if you create a playlist with tracks of a similar genre or compatible genres or even from the same label or compatible labels and then randomise.

I don't see the proportional & fuzzy bias being of much use cept for fun.

The custom bias going off web services like last.fm is more interesting. Is it implying that Amarok access these websites to find which tracks would work together better in your collection ? If so that would make for some interesting transitions :)

There is one other area that looks promising known as harmonic mixing, each track is in a key, certain keys when played consecutively sound better. Yet to find a player that can accurately indentify the key a track is in yet.
