Amazon India lightning deals

Guys, stop discussing products and only keep this thread for deals. I have 10+ notifications in the last 2 hours for this thread but none of them were deals.

Unfortunately it's complicated. For example, you don't want to spend on some deal which looks quite good on the surface but not in reality or it may be that the deal which looks good in price may not remain good to some users once some additional info/background about that deal/product is revealed. A better option would be, I don't know if it is possible, that deal posts here should be tagged with some exclusive tag/identifier & notification system catch only that identifier/tag for posts in this thread.

Or else, we can have a different thread like 'Amazon Deals Discussion' and talk everything there. People who want just deals can subscribe to this thread and people who want to discuss, will go to that thread.

For the sake of gatekeepers:

Philips GC1905 1440-Watt Steam Iron with Spray with Rs.300 coupon @ 1399 /

(also Rs.100 cashback on UPI transactions above Rs.1000 order)

It is really unfortunate and I feel the Mods should be more strict about this dishing out warnings. I don't really understand why folks cannot head to Desidime for product specific discussions or create separate threads. I think most buy stuff first for the sake of it, if its in a deal and then start asking - ooo is there anything better than this ? If majority chime in its bad, then they cancel. WTF !
One would think that this thread would be as the title suggests specifically for tech but no one gives a damn if it gets keep getting derailed and derailed. Every now and then someone would point out the obvious and then folks would keep quiet for a few hours and then its back to bizness.

This tag is an interesting update. It means that they're going to pump up prices at least 30 days before a sale now :tearsofjoy:.
Won't affect those Re. 1 sales though!

They're copying FK who has similar text on sale items such as Lowest price till now or lowest price in 15 days or 30 days etc.

Seagate Expansion 8TB Desktop External HDD - USB 3.0 for Windows and Mac with 3 yr Data Recovery Services, Portable Hard Drive (STKP8000400), Black https://amzn.eu/d/9kB37aZ

Price on FK has gone up to 17009 since they are giving ICICI card offer (1250 off) and extra 200 off. Comes to 15.6k i think.

SMR drive so only good as a storage device with preferably WORM pattern(write once read many) to dump all your data/backup in one go & then just use as source for copying/read data.

There is a good reason almost everybody use realtek RTL9210b controller nowadays in nvme enclosure. This seems a old stock clearance sale.

There are three controllers used prominently for these 10gbps enclosures- JMircron's JMS583, Realtek RTL9210b-cg, and ASMedia asm2362. Realtek came later to the other two and received proper smartctl support just a month back. JMS583 had initial issues earlier with overheating same with ASmedia IC and both have since received firmware updates resolving them. Mind you Realtek also gets toasty (52-55c) while disabling ASPM required to use a boot drive. But all these three ICs have matured since their release and it has become a matter of how well they are implemented while designing the enclosure. That's why you see Orico coming with one after another of the same 10gbps enclosures.
Most if not all of the NVME enclosures on Amazon priced below 2k have poor design. Some use plastic to hold the drive and not provide any contact with the outer metal housing and others just lazily make a notched tool-less design which is prone to drive being dislodged easily over time.

There are good-designed enclosures but all of them cost more than 3k and that amount of money will net you a 1TB drive these days. So for most people thinking of using these drives for storage or as a game drive any enclosure with these three controllers will work. Nonetheless, the preference is still- Asmedia>Realtek>JMicron.
A good remedy that I do is to buy a thermal pad (or slim copper heatsink with thermal pads) and make sure the drive makes contact with the metal frame and a USB fan to cool the enclosure.

What's an SMR drive?
All hdd nowadays are basically of 2 types: CMR(or the traditional design used since the beginning) & SMR(new design for increasing capacity of hdd while keeping the cost down). Without going into technicality, think of CMR drive as 2 persons sitting on a 2 seat bike while SMR is 3 persons adjusting to sit on a 2 seat bike. SMR drives write/read speeds decreases as the drive gets filled & once drive is more than 50-60% filled the speeds reduce significantly because of all the "adjustment". On plus side, SMR drives runs cooler & with lesser noise than CMR drives(hence all the portable usb hdd are SMR only).
Realtek RTL9210b-cg
Interestingly, my friend faced the same issue with orico enclosure having this same realtek controller.

For Competitive gamers out there 24inch 240hz controllable BFI monitor @23K without bank discounts- https://amzn.eu/d/hHUFLts

Budget QHD 180Hz pick (A bit less bright at 250 Nits) @18K without bank discounts- https://amzn.eu/d/5puEoT4

Note- Amazon has silently changed the policy for defective monitors/TVs. Only Service center replacement is now provided. Amazon is becoming more like F*kart...... Alas, the two monitors above seem to be exempt from this.

You mean these 2 monitors have the usual 7 days replacement policy as also mentioned on product page? If yes then isn't that a good thing so why the "alas".
You never know if they might change that XD
With how prone these LCD monitors are with dead pixels, dse, and backlight bleed this policy change will make it much harder to rationalize online monitor purchases given the history of Amazon/Flipkart comingling returns and new units...

(Putting that out there for people to contemplate before pulling the trigger)
