Hey guys,
im setting up a new rig based on the awesome VFM amd x2 am2. I have zeroed in on the 3600+ @ 1.9ghz brisbane core.

Memory - kingston value ddr2 667mhz 512 x 2

motherboard - this is where I am confused. I want to choose between the 690 chipset boards. Also I will be using this primarly as a HTPC and I do not want to purchase a separate gpu.

could u guys please suggest a board which has hdmi onboard as I will be using this with my 50" lcd rear projection And I need to overclock the cpu.

i have shortlisted some but if ull do have any other suggestions please do let me know ..
biostar ta690g (not available in mumbai) :(
asus m2avm hdmi (i heard they give an optional hdmi pci card wit the board, but i do need 2 pci slots free for my x-fi sound card n tv tuner)
msi k9agm2 fih hdmi (not heard of this board, heard alot about the k9n ulta and k9n diamond though)
Jetway (dont k ow d model #, its using d 690 chipset but doesnt support hdmi onboard)

cheers,
Ash

jetway M2A692-GHG

this is the one with the 690 chipset ?
heard it doesn't have hdmi onboard.

thnx zhops! i just checked it online..it does support hdmi.. is it on the panel or a separate optional pci card given along with the board??

I dont think the Biostar overclocks. I dunno abt the Jetway, but my initial guess is that MSI is your only onboard HDMI option....

On the Jetway board...DVI & VGA port is there. Sice the DVI port supports HDCP...so a DVI to HDMI converter will do the trick..the biostar board has everything on the back panel....VGA, DVI , 9-pin HDTV & HDMI port.I searched for the board calling Priya Ltd...they dnt have it anymore. So ordered a Jetway frm Itwares.

If anyone can locate the Biostar board (TA690G) plz let me know. I will pick up one for sure

The daughter card for HDMI/S-Video/S/PDIF on this board will go to the PCIe x16 slot and not to PCI slot.

If I were you, I would go with MSI. K9n's are nvidia chipset based ones and K9a are for amd/ati chipset.

I need HDMI on board and i dont think the K9A or K9N has that on board..
+ MSI is on the expensive side

P.S I am getting really confused now!..

I dont want to spend more than 5.5k on the board.. unless there is an exceptional performer thats costs more than that..

thats nice.. jst got a quote of 6k for that board! :@

Both the DVI & HDMI will provide the same quality as basically a DVI port with HDCP (protected contect ) is HDMI. But the thing is that if u wanna drive a LCD monitor & a LCD TV both at same time...then both the DVI & HDMI port might be useful . But I guess I read somewhere both DVI & HDMI can't be used at the same time to play protected content.

yep....protected content can be played only on 1 device at at a time....either DVI or HDMI

and HDMI is DVI + Audio.....so how does the DVI to HDMI connector accomodate for the audio?

maget 6k for the asus board. 3.6k for jetway ..

dvi -> hdmi will be only video. i will have to use a separate connection for my audio through the soundcard.

Who the hell needs HDMI...?? U should realize that content protection is only gonna make things costly around you, with all the DRM costs. The cost is not just for the movie/songs, but also a lot of processing power is involved...

So its an humble request to all to realize that content-protection is not going to be beneficial to anybody, (in the long term) not even to the companies that are marketing HDCP
