There will be no price cuts on October 23rd, 2006

DailyTech previously reported AMD was planning a major CPU price cut a couple days after Intel ships Core 2 Duo Conroe processors. Those expecting AMD to announce another price cut in time for the holiday season will be disappointed. DailyTech has received an updated price list for October 23rd, 2006 that shows AMD has no plans to reduce prices on its Athlon 64 and Sempron desktop product lineups anytime soon. Pricing on Athlon 64, Athlon 64 FX, Athlon 64 X2, Athlon 64 X2 EE and Sempron will stay the same well into 2007 which may disappoint users expecting a sub-$100 dual-core AMD offering in time for the holidays to compete with Intel's $95 Pentium D 805.

The upcoming July 24th, 2006 price cut is the only planned price cut for quite a while. There’s no word on other upcoming price cuts yet, though it wouldn’t be surprising to see AMD cut prices when Brisbane production ramps up. DailyTech has previously reported on AMD’s upcoming Socket AM2 motherboard forward compatibility with Socket AM3 CPUs, upcoming AMD K8L architecture, AMD’s June 2006 product roadmap and upcoming 65nm improvements too. AMD has also been aggressively discontinuing Socket 939 and 754 products including dual-core Athlon 64 X2 4200+ and 4600+ models.

Shortage of Intel Processors in India

MarketFlash
Owing to the massive price drop, which Intel has announced for its products in July 23, the dealers are facing acute crisis. As per the dealers, such kind of shortage is causing severe problems because they are not being able to meet up with the demand of the customers.

Almost all the dealers said that since Intel is lowering their prices on July 23, hence the dealers are only stocking products for day to day business and hence no stock is being kept in advance. The acute crisis seems to be with the dual core products and the dealers are blaming the distributors for not being able to meet up with the existing market demand.

“There is shortage of Intel CPUs and motherboards. Only daily products are being kept in the shops and the goods are not being stocked,†said Pradeep Biyani, CEO, Suntronic Systems from Kolkata.

Another dealer, Anupam Ghosh, Proprietor, CTG Infosystems from Durgapur also spoke in same line. He said, “Yes there is a shortage of Intel Processors, mainly 2.6 Dual Core. This shortage is mainly from the distributors’ side.â€

Speaking about his real time experience, Delhi based Sunil Agarwal, Partner, Electro Sales, said, “Distributors are clearing their stocks on various single core processors which have created an inventory shortage. While we ordered 25 Dual core Processors we got only 18 of them. So basically there is a shortage in Motherboards and slightly in CPU also.â€

Partners expect that this entire confusion will be cleared after July 23. “There is a shortage in Intel Processors as we are waiting for the price decrease which is going to be settled after July 23. Everything will be normal after this,†said Ajay Singhania, M.D, Venktron Digital Systems.
Looking at the market situation it seems that the shortage problem is a temporary one and everything will be back on track after July 23.

Well Spoke to a dealer at lammy.
He said On 24th july, after the AMD price cuts,The effect will be immediate From the next day onwards,as the distributors will be under price protection.

the conroe pricings will be high and will not drop for at least 6 months in india. so a cheaper AM2 will be what budget users will be looking at. maybe everything will become clear once intel announces the local pricing
