Hey guys, just needed some help; What would be the best AMD CPU/Mobo combo in the ~10K range. Might change my CPU so just wanted some suggestions. And before anyone asks, AMD because:

i) Been an Intel person all my life, thought I'd try something new and

ii) Heard AMD's better for gaming.

Thanks! :)

You are little late to the show... Intel is back on top. For 10K, best combo that you can get now is E4500+Abit IP-35-E. Overclock the processor as much as you can. 3 Ghz is quite achievable and should not create any troubles.
Total cost should be around 10.5K

^^^+1...later on get a as5/mx2 with a good cpu cooler like the artic pro(vfm) or the true 120 extreme and pretty soon u`ll be the seeing enormous overclocks..

lookout for 780 chipset based mobo. its the latest and has good reviews. and best onboard grafix performance.

and dont listen to these intel fanboys :P

AMD is better for gaming if you plan to use the onboard gfx.

in that case , the 780 Chipset mobo booo mentioned is the best.

however , if you're getting a card, and can overclock, get an Intel .

the newer intels are better than the current AMD range, and overclock far better. so AMD's are priced aggressively .

to illustrate my point ,

An athlon X2 5200 and an intel E4500 cost about the same. however , at stock speeds , the AMD has better performance.

however , the moment you overclock , the equations change. Intels can be overclocked a lot more than AMDs , and if you compare the price : performance of intel vs amd processors when overclocked , intel is the winner.

if you're a gamer on a budget , and wont overclock, an AMD processor will give you adequate performance , while freeing up cash you can spend on a better graphics card - Nowadays most games are GPU limited, and if you're looking at serious gaming, most of your cash should go into a card

That adequately captures up my situation. So to sum up all of the comments above; no overclock means the AMD 780 chipset mobo and a good to great GPU?

Thanks everyone for your advice! :)

the AMD 780 is a bit pricey now(~5k) . would recommend an AMD 690G / nvidia 7050( ~3k) based mobo( since you wont be using the onboard anyway) based on the card you're planning to get :)
