Hot!!! Amd hd 7970 reviews are out~~~

The NDA has lifted and few of the reviews have gone online.

Check out this guru3d review. The HD 7970 is a kick ass card. Its upto 40% faster than the GTX 580. In most gaming scenarios its performance falls between the HD 6950 2GB Xfire and the HD 6870 1GB Xfire. Comment away. :)

More reviews will be added as they are published.

AMD Radeon HD 7970 review

6950 CFs still perform above 7970...No need to switch buddy :)...Yes if power consumption is the thing bothering then its worth upgrading :p

I am so happy to see AMD/ATI back in business with 7xxx series :) 7850 I am coming

I think they have been decently in business, since HD4850 was released. :) The boards are running cool, taking up less and less power, and deliver the good for the money. Driver releases are working fine too. Heck, XfireX is affordable now.

Well done.

I hope Nvidia Jumps back in the game with some serious competition. Ati just seems to rule this gfx war after the 6 series launch. Now 7 series and boy are we being spoiled by these cards. :p

I was depressed by seeing AMD fall after BD launch, but now its time to rejoice :)

Brothers and female friends, here's the highest AWESOME overclock I've seen, by TPU:

gpuz_oc.gif

Core: 1075MHz, up from 925MHz

Memory: 6860MHz, up from 5500MHz

And just so you guys know how BIG this is compared to HD5870 and the HD6970, here are GPU-Z specs, go through EACH SPEC and compare:

gpuz_oc (1).gif

How to make picture show as thumbnail???

Also, I found the HIGHEST CORE overclock of 1165MHz by legitreviews:

I think this time there will be serious competition nvidia has to comes up with kick ass gfx to beat this :) ..but when it comes to power consumption amd always win..but amd looses to intel in case of proccy lolzz!! Hope nvidia comes up with lower power hungry cards ;)

Upgrading Commentary

At this point, the question you are asking yourself about upgrading is almost moot, as there aren't any AMD Radeon HD 7970's in retail yet. The AMD Radeon HD 7970 is supposed to start trickling in through the Christmas holiday. We should see fuller stocks of Radeon HD 7970's around January 9th, as per AMD statements. At that point, if you are coming from a Radeon HD 5000 series video card, the Radeon HD 6970 would give you tremendous improvement in your gameplay experience. Coming from a lesser Radeon HD 6000 series, you will also see massive improvements that are worth it. If you have a high-end Radeon HD 6970 right now, you will also see noticeable improvements in your gameplay experience. If you currently own two Radeon HD 6970's with CrossFireX, or a Radeon HD 6990, this may not be much of an upgrade. What you would get though is 100% performance out of your GPU at all times, with less Wattage. Of course, if you went with two 7970's, then that should be a lot faster than two 6970's.

Coming from a GeForce GTX 580 it may be more of a question of efficiency. We have seen that the Radeon HD 7970 is able to give us faster than GTX 580 performance, with a lot less Wattage. The AMD Radeon HD 7970 is really all about efficiently providing the best performance possible, while keeping power in check. The AMD Radeon HD 7970 is massively efficient compared to the GeForce GTX 580, with performance improvements as well. The low-power idle Wattage is also impressive. If you have a GeForce GTX 580 right now, by installing a Radeon HD 7970 into your system you are going to get faster performance, you are going to get higher playable gameplay settings in games, and you are going to also get a reduction in the amount of Wattage consumed using this video card. It is going to save you power and money in the long-run. All of these are positive benefits, and thus means it would certainly be an upgrade from a GeForce GTX 580.

Sums it all... I am very impressed by power consumption & temps... My HD4850 idles at 84 C even in this winter.. :(
