Graphic Cards AMD HD7XXX Discussion Thread

No, in my view the IceQ edition cards are much better than the stock cooler.

Yes, they are good but I never liked iceq HD6970 type cooler which was supposedly dual slot but cooler thickness made it occupy some 3rd slot too. Which can be hinderance for small mobo owners looking for cfx.

Fair enuff, but compared that to the MSI 7870 TF2 at 22.1k ?

Better, the IceQ edition coolers are optimized for silent cooling, the MSi Twin Frozr layout cards with dual 92mm fans are not remotely quiet.

Here are some reviews -- http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/4614/his_radeon_hd_7870_iceq_turbo_overclocked_video_card_review/index.html / http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=888&Itemid=72&limit=1&limitstart=1.

The HIS cards are better due to following reason --
  • Redesigned cooler shroud and fan, in older cards the fan was UV reactive so interesting bling in your cabinet.
  • Better cooling and efficiency vis-a-vis any other design in the market.
  • Over-clocking is at par with most other designs on the market and still the cooling is more than adequate.

Hope this helps, Cheers!!

could you please elaborate why the ice q scores over twin frozr iii,

afaik in tomshardware msi is much better than his. Moreover msi 7870 octf iii prices are more than his7870

Okay you have given to forum links, there are no direct comparison reviews between the MSi and HIS graphics card, I will try to scrounge one up and will post it here.

Now the reason why I say the HIS card is better than the MSi flavour [not just from gaming point of view but overall] --
  • The redesigned cooler shroud and fan, the MSi Twin Frozr cards have a dual --> 92mm fan layout, once you start clocking it higher it gets exponentially noisier [something some can live with others cannot].
  • HIS is an AMD board partner, they retail AMD graphics card exclusively, so their experience with AMD cards have led them to design the IceQ edition, something which is not the case with MSi, there are Twin Frozr I / II / III edition for a variety of cards ranging from the AMD HD 6870 --> nVidia GTX 580.
  • Next up, overall performance is same across the bench for both the HIS as well as the MSi card, because both are running the same chip the HD 7870, now over-clocking is strictly a personal purview, if you want to do it fine, don't want to fiddle fine. Saying that the MSi card clocks better is unproven until you can give me solid facts [links, reviews, personal experience].

Here are a few review for the AMD HD 7870, a motley collection just to support my point, see if MSi OR HIS can be matched --> http://www.anandtech...olor-pcs-hd7870 / http://www.techpower...870_Twin_Frozr/ / http://benchmarkrevi...d=888&Itemid=72.

It seems tweaktown.com has done a comprehensive run on both the cards, here are their links --> http://www.tweaktown...view/index.html / http://www.tweaktown...view/index.html.

Both the cards have received, The Must Have Award --> now it is your personal preference which card you want to purchase.

Hope this helps, Cheers!!

okay agree with most of the points you made benchmark cannot be given until different manufactures card are bench marked together.

Site reviews of bench marks are highly subjective some manufactures give incentives to write good reviews of them, overall there is not much difference between the 2 cards.

My only point of argument is

the overclockers club of HD7800 graphics card, most of them did not buy HIS cards even though it is cheaper than, msi, sapphire or asus,

this being an elite group of hard core gaming fanatics choose to overlook such a high value for money graphics card(HIS 7870 OC)

why? may be they know something about HIS sales and after service which you or me don't know.

#[member='ALPHA17'], please to reply to #[member='dfcols71'] comments above... also, umm...

what is the "overclockers club of HD7800 graphics card"?

Lot of forums, especially western forums have a much older and active member base that prides itself in forming exclusive little clubs like the one mentioned by dfcols71.

What do you want me to reply to?

I think both my and #[member='dfcols71'] points are moot. There is no more point in further sparring on the topic --
  • HIS cards are renowned for running cooler, quieter than your run of the mill third-party cards. For this purpose they have a custom cooler and fan design. They have garnered quite a reputation for their products at SPCR.com.
  • MSi cards on the other hand are meant for people who over-clock them, both cards are for different target markets.
  • MSi card design is decent, it cools the product but if you ramp up the fan-speed it quickly looses any semblance of peace and quiet.

Hope this helps, Cheers!!

So HIS runs cooler while MSI is a better overclocker ? Broadly speaking i.e. ...but both are excellent products (TF products for MSI and ICEq for HIS). What about other HIS products - ICE and stock versions ?

What about other HIS products - ICE and stock versions ?

I am not aware of the stock products that HIS retails, as the HD 7850 2GB card doesn't have a standard AMD layout / cooler design almost each company will release cards with customs solutions with varying success, the most popular will be --
  1. MSi Twin Frozr / HAWK / Cyclone edition(s) --> if you want over-clocking prowess and good cooling and are not really bothered by a noisy cooler, you just want the best performance. Head for these cards, also MSi is slightly cheaper than Sapphire and ASUS but their construct quality is not what I will call top notch.
  2. Sapphire TOXIC / standard edition --> the defacto AMD board-design member, Sapphire generally prices cards well and has got great penetration in the Indian market, the standard designs are reliable though not your over-clocking jewels, they generally have the generic AMD sanctioned design / cooler shroud with a Sapphire logo plastered on it. The TOXIC edition is Sapphire's factory over-clocked line-up it may also come with a more exotic fan / heat-sink layout.
  3. ASUS Direct CU edition --> ASUS started retailing these cards in direct competition with the MSi's Twin Frozr cards, they have an elaborate, expansive heatsink design and generally are at par with their MSi competition. The only downer is the ASUS sales network which potentially scares a lot of customers.
  4. HIS IceQ / IceQ Turbo edition(s) --> A relative new addition in the Indian market, world renowned for their silent and efficient designs these cards are primarly used by gamers and over-clockers who want a cool and quiet experience. Hardcore over-clockers please avoid this card.

Hope this answers your query Sire, Cheers!!

Couple of these Gigabyte cards (7850 / 7870 / 7950) appeared on SMC yday... 7850 may still be in stock.. 15.2k for OC version, quite a bargain IMHO...

The cooler looks wicked and the large fans will help in propelling large amounts of air at lower dBs. Will definitely help in over-clocking runs too, though I don't know how far you can push the same.

You can go for it, Gigabyte has a good --> decent service network in India. Cheers!!

Oh, I got myself the 7950 version....
<
... incidentally, will it work on the S12 620W PSU ?

Hey guys my budget is 350$ m I cant get a HD 7870 for that, is it worth it? Or nvidia? a lot of ppl say Nvidia is better (cuz of AMD rumour of decreased quality for performance, phsyx etc).. But most of the games we play are like BF3 CS 1.6 ,CS:GO , COD , CRYSIS and none of them use phsyix if im not wrong.. I prefer AMD cuz of Value for money. what do u guys suggest? My PC build is i7 2600k and a good mobo (i forgot) with a 8 gigs DDR3 Ram etc (all coming from USA... so gotta get gfx too . help)
