Advanced Micro Devices’ next-generation server AMD Opteron processors with enhanced set of features may use land-grid array (LGA) packaging and sockets, according to pictures published by a web-site. While the LGA packaging provides numerous benefits to AMD, mainboards with such a socket will cost more to be made.

I remember when Intel first announced LGA everybody and their grandmom where going on about the likely chances of damaging the pins on the Intel based mother boards and having to throw away boards just because of broken pins. Has anyone actually seen/heard of this happening ?
 
yep. The mainstream S1 and M2 will be conventional socket. And Socket F is a socket where little price difference does not matter ;)
