AMD has quietly reduced prices for a handful of its desktop Phenom II and Athlon II processors this week in an attempt to defend its market share against competition from Intel. The discounts apply mostly to the higher-clocked options in each processor class. For example, those looking to build an affordable quad-core system can now get their hands on the 3.0GHz Athlon II X4 640 for just $100 -- an 18% drop from the previous price of $122.

The Phenom II X4 955 and 965 Black Edition processors are also getting $20 price cuts to $145 and $165, respectively. ...Meanwhile, the 3.2GHz Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition has dropped from $105 to $93, the Athlon II X3 445 now costs $76, and a pair of Athlon II X2s also received minor cuts.

AMD's six-core Phenom II X6 CPUs remain unchanged, however. ...

AMD's quad-core Athlon II X4 640 CPU has seen its price drop from US$122 to US$99, while the dual-core Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition CPU dropped from US$105 to US$93, and the quad-core Phenom II X4 955 and 965 Black Edition both dropped US$26. Most of the company's other processors have seen drops up to US$10.

Wow. It's frustrating because I need to build my pc by the end of this month. I don't think prices here will go down before that.

i guess same prices for 3 models means that higher model will drop to that price point but lower one wont drop lower , it will remain at same price , so like 630 was for 5k now one can get 640 for same price , but 630 wont go low further .

EOL - End of Life, a slot-in replacement, clearing out 'old stock' to make way for new.

Right term is - Eating into their own sales, AMD doesn't want it with further price cuts on obsolete/replaced chips.

I think X3 425 is already EOL. Few days back it was listed in SMC and ITWares website for Rs.3150. But now there is no listing for this processor in ITWares now. So guess u will find only left over stocks at some retailers.

The prices are authentic as it reflects in the AMD website too.

Newegg will buy, say 945, 955BE and 965BE for $145 and price 945 for $135, 955BE for $155 and 965BE for $165. Not sure whether these reflect the prices after price cut

As u can see there is no X4925 in newegg whereas we still get them in India. It is EOL since few weeks back in US and newegg also says X3 425 out of stock. Its also EOL now.

Delta peripherals as already reduced the price by 500 for AMD phenom II 1055T (Rs 9975) and the website is showing some more six core processors as expected.
