I forgot to take down the serial of my CPU before installing. Once you have installed it, is there any way to know what week your CPU is made? (I don't want to remove the HSF - too much work!!)

I have the retail AMD box with me. Does that carry the CPU number or is there some utility to find it out?

Heh i have week 44, but dont be disappointed. Week 50 onwords CPUs were crap including all 0501,0502 CPUs. Specially CABB stepping batch.
I am lucky to have mine :) waited 3 weeks to get Week 44 batch :)

Check the attached pic.. :)

For ex: 0434:04 signifies the year n 34 the week of manufacture.

i dont think its on the box as well but i'm not sure about that.. since we usually check the chip directly through the plastic window for the serial #

On Topic:
These pricing may look impressive now, but i'm goin the Intel way, when dual cores hit the market, 'cuase Intel's dual core chip is expected to cost half as much compared to AMD.

Cost per unit, maybe okay, but u gotta admit, new tech is new, aren't you just as anxious to get hands on a dual core, besides there are other reasons too, i think that will make Intel rule in dual core:

-Cost advantage ofcourse, you will get intel chip for $240 while for AMD gives it own version for $500

-Vanderpool(tm) technology

-DDR2 Support, that will make your investment in RAM, specially if you buy high quality premium one, more future proof

- Lastly Intel is an Intel is an Intel, more resale value

well.. what money u save over the Dual core CPU will surely come in handy in investing in "high quality premium DDR2 RAM" :ohyeah:

The problem for intel is AMD single core CPUs are outperforming its dual core, atleast in gaming ;)

And who says Intel has more resale value. I am trying to sell my P4 for 2 months now at 65% cost and still no takers as A64 have got really cheap here too.

^^That's a temporary scenario, 'cause current games are not meant for dual cores.Games to come will start taking the benifit of Dual cores, and you'll see visible results.

That's bcoz, u'r tryin to sell a kinda current chip at a forum, where members are very knowledgeable, which know AMD's rule in Single Core.
Most of people (incl. me ) don't upgrade that often, and do it only if chip is outdated, the only place left to sell it, is to the computer kabari's(i.e. second hand dealers and component level repair guys), which give more money for Intel :)

If "that's a temporary scenario," then what makes u believe Intel will still hold the lead when games are coded for dual core processors? Given the recent past on developments and performance of CPUs, AMD is far better than Intel and there is no reason to believe otherwise, for the recent future too ;)

If you Quantify "far better" in terms of FPS, its hardly 10 in current single core scenario. So i don't think spendin 250 bux more on gettin an AMD dual core, instead of Intel is worth it, you can get an excellent gfx for the cost which will nullify, the procc advantage :ohyeah:
