Inspiron M501R Laptop Details | Dell India

•AMD PhenomTM II Processor N850 is a TriCore processors. These lappys are cool with inbuilt ATI Radeon HD 550V onboard so heating problem as there with all laptops with discrete graphic card. See the price is very competitive for 15.6 inch that too with ATI 550V which is way far superior that crapy Intel HD 4500 IGP.

This is result of when Intel was preventing Dell, HP & Sony from selling AMD based laptops or badly configuring them. Intel was paying Dell for not selling AMD laptops, which are superior to Intel based systems with regard to IGP and also Cost Vs Performance.

But Dell has only two models, both is 15.6 sreen size. There is no offering in the 14 inch category with similar configuration. HP has many models from 13 inch to 16.7 inch with same AMD configurations (HP ProBook 4425s, 6455b, 6555b) but duno where to get them in India. I duno whether they are yet launched in India. HP India website is one of the worst on the earth.

If anyone come accross info on these HP lappys powered by ATI radeon HD 530V or 550V, i.e where to buy them in India? I need one urgently. Thanks in advance.

^^They have been there since last one month or so

Only con is Heating issue and no turbo boost

SO leave it aside

Can you indicate, where are they available in India?

Turbo boost of course, you can not get in AMD. It is a Intel gimmick similar to hiper threading of olden days. Similar stuff from AMD is called Turbo Core. Overheating???? That problem relates to decrete graphic cards based laptops. You are completely of the track and talking about the old stuff.

It doesn't matter if AMD's chips are better than Intel's on a performance per watt or performance per dollar basis. It is now widely known that Intel routinely bribes or coerces manufacturers and retailers to block AMD out of the market. Technological superiority means nothing. Might makes right.

Could someone please put a review for the latter(Inspiron M501R) since it's currently at 40K as compared to 42K earlier, vrey much interesed in getting one of these, would help with running Hyper V on them to check or demo some stuff for presentations

"The notebook is very responsive for daily tasks like internet surfing, watching videos, etc. Multitasking is really not a problem here, thanks to four physical cores. A small warning though, the M501R runs pretty hot even with Power Saver Mode - On and just browsing. You'll feel the heat instantly on your leg, which can be really uncomfortable. The CPU does scale down to 800MHz on low load but even so with our room temperature at 22C, it was still quite hot. The keys and trackpad don't cause much fatigue even with prolonged use."
