If you are one of those who have been waiting impatiently for Battlefield 3 to arrive, you should be happy to know that AMD has prepared you a surprise as it seems like some graphics cards from the Radeon HD 6000-series will be shipping with a coupon for DICE's title.

Graphics card manufacturers have for a long time now taken advantage of highly expected game titles by bundling them for free with their video cards and AMD is no different.

According to SweClockers, AMD plans to bundle the latest version of Battlefield with Radeon HD 6870 graphics cards, mainly because of the supply issues faced by the HD 6900 series.

The promotion will be available from a select number of the company's partners and the coupon included can be used for downloading the full version of the game.

Right now, it isn't known when the AMD campaign will begin. Most probably however, this will start after Battlefield 3 is launched on October 27 in order not to interfere with the initial sales on the game.

The Radeon HD 6870 is destined to cater to the needs of the mainstream market and the GPU was launched in October of 2010.

AMD's Radeon HD 6870 is based on the Cayman XT core and it packs 1120 streaming processors, 56 texture units and 32 ROP units as well as a 256-bit wide memory bus that connects to 2GB of GDDR5 video buffer.

This works at 1.05GHz (4.2GHz effective), while the GPU comes clocked at 900MHz.

The card should be enough for running Battlefield 3 at a resolution of 1080p, but users will have to reduce the detail level in order to obtain playable frame rates, as the higher presets require an AMD Radeon HD 6970 or Nvidia GeForce GTX 580 for smooth gameplay.

They should have released 7XXX series this month and rather bundled BF3 with 7XXX series. Monster game on Monster cards

True... But AMD is helpless... So you should blame it on TSMC whoz 28nm process is not mature enough which forced AMD to delay their HD7xxx release date :)

Anyway from the beta performance reports and also testing the same myself, BF3 is not quite the GPU killer, it was initially thought to be. With my HD 6950 CF (unlocked to 6970) set-up I can play on ultra @ 1080p with v-sync on at a constant 60fps.

I would also blame it on Apple partially.

Also hoping that there will be a sort of giveaway like Dirt3.

Those are only on Newegg lol. I have never seen those kind of giveaways in India, atleast not the best and popular games

^^ Lol many of us got Dirt 3 keys for free in an AMD giveaway. I guess you were sleeping or living under a rock and thinking only abt newegg.
Its happens also in India for a difference :p

Not really, what I meant to say was that those kind of giveaways are not officially there in India. The AMD Dirt 3 keys which you got were never meant for Indian customers but only for newegg customers who bought AMD graphics cards and got the steam code for free. I have never seen any Indian store or even indian website giving away a free game with any graphics card or other hardware

^^ Ok seems it was not obvious for you or you dont know how to search the forums properly yet :)

This is what I get in PM from Parth after my last post...wats the need of PM ??

Lat few weeks I have seen the new members will PM for anything as if its akin to e-mailing  and filling my inbox every week. Can we do something abt this ?

Another PM from Mr. Parth !

Read before posting next time son

What do I even answer to this. Ignorance is Bliss :D

^Yes, I also had this same experience from another member last month, where instead of continuing the discussion in the thread, he was resorting to sending such rude pms like "Read before you post" etc. I replied to him the first two times, but after that I just ignored him.

Ontopic,

Is this offer going to be only for 6870 or is there a possibility for the upcoming 7000 series also? Also, does anyone know why both AMD and Nvidia are so dependent on TSMC, especially when it is screwing up their schedules so badly in the past two years? What happened to AMDs own Global Foundry?

^^ GF 28nm wont be ready till mid of next year, so TSMC dependency is pretty much a bottleneck for both ATI as well as AMD. And now with Mobile/Tablet SoCs having much higher demand , revenue as well as margins....28nm for GPUs will have to wait for 2 quarters at least !

And ya I got one more PM...problem is he wont post on this thread anymore !

GloFo 32nm process is gonna take more time to get matured IINM... Thats why AMD and Nvidia decided to produce their GPUs at TSMC...
