AMD will be entering the Windows 8 tablet party with its new Z-60 Accelerated Processing Unit ( APU ) .

AMD will compete with Intel's Clover Trail and ARM's offerings with its Z-60 APU . The Z-60 is a dual-core solution clocked at 1GHz and comes along with Radeon class graphics which packs 80 GPU cores . While the Intel's Atom Z2760 aka Clover Trail has 1.8GHz frequency , which might outpace the Z-60 , the Radeon based GPU is likely to beat the Atom in 3D performance .

The increased GPU power in the Z-60 comes at the cost of power consumption , with a 4.5W rating compared to Intels 1.7W for the Z2760 . This could mean lower battery life of AMD powered tablets or heavier weight because of higher capacity battery .

However , we will have to wait till the actual benchmarks and tests are out for the comparisons . Intel based tablets will be launching later this month , but AMD based tablets wont make their way into markets until the end of the year .

Eighty cores? Why do AMD always have to go overboard with their hardware core counts  and 4.5W vs 1.7W is a serious difference, I don't see how AMD can play that down.

the gpu in clover trail is powervr sgx 545 which is only dx9 capable, whereas the radeon in hondos is dx 11 capable(and also faster).also the bobcat cores are have better IPC than the clover cores.
