Which are...

1. Free mobile battery charger
2. Watch T.V for Free of cost
3. Free WiFi
4. Free Books to read
5. Bumper prize contest for customers
6. Refer a poor child for Studies
7. And discount in fare for teachers and on special days.
8. Mobile and DTH recharge

Annadurai is now 29 Years old.His main goal is to get his customers feel happy and he needs customer satisfaction . The vehicle is WI-Fi enabled and, if you're not carrying a laptop or smartphone to connect to the internet, Annadurai will slip you a 10-inch tablet. He carries an internet dongle attached to a WI-Fi router and offers free access to the internet. "Most people who take my auto work for IT companies and I know access to the internet is important for them," Annadurai says. "It takes about half an hour to cover the distance between Thiruvanmiyur and Sholinganallur. Why waste that time?" Says Annadurai

The auto also has lots for magazines and newspapers that contain the latest editions. Annadurai spends 4,000 Rupees a month on subscriptions to 35 various news publications. There are dailies for the customers who need to keep up on the news, weekly magazines for passengers who are taking a long ride, and glossy fortnight-lies for those interested in lighter reading.

Annadurai spends more than 5,000 to give his customers an auto ride like no other in the city, yet makes a good living, taking home a profit of around 1,000 a day. "That is more than enough for a bachelor like me," he says. "I drive from 8am to 1pm and from 5pm to 11pm," he says. He charges Rupees 15 for the 11km route he covers, while other share auto drivers demand 20 for the same distance. "Money really isn't too important to me," he says. "What gives me pleasure is that people remember me and are grateful for the service I offer," Annadurai Says

Books, tablet, recharge, tv, charging facilities, and social welfare..
Sounds like he is sponsored by Reliance and drives an RV instead of an auto.

Kudos to this autowala.

Unfortunately, in Pune, autowalas are fcking @$$holes, they probably don't care about their families i feel. They are ok with just sitting there entire day with other autowalas and chat than to run their autos on meter. Always asking for high charges and meter is for show. I have NEVER EVER found any auto wala in Pune who took me by meter. May be because they spot I am IT guy ? May be.
And it is not only me, be it old ladies, other people i have seen them asking for more money and not by meter.
I have a bike for this very reason so i am not dependent on them. But there are occasions when I am forced to take an auto and always got ripped (because it was my need of hour).

Contrary in Mumbai, you will rarely see any autowala asking more money than meter, even if it 3 AM in the morning. But there are some d1cks near National park, Borivali area who quote charges and not go as per meter, i just laugh at their face and move ahead and go to next one.

What's amazing is he's still earning profit after spending so much a month on bills. Wow.

I do not know about this autowala but the six seater walas (who actually take 10+ people) in Hinjewadi area probably earn far more than the IT guys. I am serious.
Just consider this, they ferry IT people from Wakad bridge to Hinjewadi Phase 2 (some go till Phase 3) for 25 Rs and stuff around 12 people so that means.

25 x 12 = 300 Rs per journey one way
Now even if they make 10 such trips (they make more), it is like 3000 Rs per day which i am sure is more than many IT Professionals working in the same area.

The reason these people can go away with all this s because they give hafta to the local police there.

Bangalore too is at the mercy of autowalas. Most of the places are not served by buses or metros so one is left with the option of traveling by his own vehicle or auto.

I actually had pleasant experience in both taxis and autos when I was in Pune because I was always charged by the meter and taken straight to my destination rather than them taking a long route so as to earn more which many autos do. It helped that I had a phone with Google Maps showing the routes in my hand in all those rides and the drivers were aware of that.

Did you happen to take the auto in city ? Then there is high chance he took you by meter. Go little bit out of cit center and they show their colors.
Taxi ? There is no normal red yellow type taxi in Pune i believe so you may have gone in that radio cab which don't overcharge.

I also took one auto from beyond Loni toll plaza back to the city and even he charged by the meter. Rest of the times I was in the city.
Obviously you know better as you live over there and my experience is just based on 2-3 days of roaming in the city. The Eazy cabs were much better and even cheaper than the autos though.
