Can someone pinch me please? :P

I have always shied away from the Halo Franchise, which, suffice to say, is the crème de la crème title of Microsoft's shiny console. But as they say, times change and so do we. So here I am, playing the first Halo title and must admit, mildly enjoying it. ;)

The opening cinematic just blew me away, only to be greeted with a sub-par first chapter. The voice acting is top-notch. Visuals are kind of a mixed bag, it's not entirely good, but ain't that bad either. Weapons from the Human side are good, Alien side are downright weird. Action seems to be tight. Vehicle handling is like gliding on ice. I'm currently on the 3rd chapter and the pace really picked up in Chapter 2. So really looking forward to better moments in the latter parts of the game.

I have no clue what the storyline is all about. I know of a few people who have already completed the game and yes, I'm looking at you, Dinjo & startegy. Get your butts in here and explain the basics of the storyline. Who are the covenant? What exactly is the purpose of establishment of our squad?

*resumes game*

This was one of my favorite titles. Sadly only played the initial one which came out on PC. I think one of the first games (could be wrong) to show the gun magazine gradually depleting as rounds are fired off. Awesome.

Halo Reach is a prequel to all the Halo Games , it explains how covenant started there invasion on the planet. The ending is known to all but its a ride as to how YOU END there.

One of my BC2 clan mate, Tushar was saying he loves Halo Reach MP a lot, and i think he still plays it online. Game must be good :P

Halo Reach offers the best halo experience in the series hands down! Although it doesnt have the epicness of master chief's presence! Halo is Legendary! (storyline is awesome too)

Did you try the sequel? It was released for the PC too. Only Halo 3, ODST and Reach were exclusive to the 360. Sadly, I never got around completing the previous titles. So this is a completely new experience for me.

So who are the Covenant exactly? Some sort of inter-galactic alien race? I take it, the protagonist in this game isn't Master Chief. I'm essentially Noble Six, a part of the SPARTAN squad. So where does Chief come into picture?

I suppose it's selling point is largely based on how good the MP capabilities are, rather than the SP campaign. :P

But Master Chief doesn't speak does he? The opening music of Halo 3 was f*ckin' awesome.

Update: Completed the 'Night Fall' chapter and I must say, the visuals during night were amazing, especially the lighting effects. The level itself was bad-ass, right down from the slow sniper take-down part to the action packed conclusion of the chapter. WOW! Me likes the game. :D

What all was released for PC --- HALO..?
And the sequel Halo 2. :)

Both were awesome titles. In fact I wouldn't mind playing the previous titles to get a recap of the storyline before I attempt the next 3 titles.

You should not be even concerned about Master Chief, its a prequel which has no relation to Master Chief.

Just enjoy the fire fights thats the best thing the game has to offer.

Sorry i am late But here goes.

Halo's story.

in 26th century Mankind had developed "Slipstream" travel ( call if much faster than light travel ). THis allowed mankind to spread across the galaxy, make colonies.

In the year 2525 Human colony , Harvest, met with a galactic alliance calling them selves " The covenant". The covenant did not try to Shake hands, they are Hostile, and attack humans calling them " the Heretics " ( more on this if you want ). War rages on.

In 2552 The covenant attack Reach, The second most Important Base of humans ( second only to Earth ).Humans Take every measure to stop the covenant but Reach, the Military Stronghold Of UNSC, falls. Covenant Glass ( bombard with plasma so that sand is recrystallized in to glass) the Planet ( and start Digging, (again more on this IF you want.) )

THe Last remaining Ship the "pillar of Autumn" commanded by Captain keys, escapes. (not to earth, so as to avoid giving up the coordinates of earth ). They arrive at a Halo installation where the Covenant follow. and the First HALO GAME begins there .......

Spartans : ..spartans dont die...

Spartans, the name taken from The legendary 300 who held the lines against the odds.

Spartan II program was led by Doctor Catherine Halsey , which included Handpicking of genetically superior Children, then Kidnapping them ( replacing them with their clones )to maintain the Secrecy of the Spartan II project.

around 75 Genetically superior children were kidnapped and all went through the tough training. Later these 75 were biologically Augmented to so as to make them more superior. These augmentations included everything from Bones, Muscles , nerves , brain , etc. thus they were lethal to some. as a result only 33 made it without any defects. Later The spartans were equipped with the MOJOLNIR armour under project MOJOLNIR.

JHON-117 amongst all the training was chosen as their in leader.

Spartans have been described as the best of the best soldiers- Supersoldiers.THere is a part in a a halo novel where 5 spartans are up against 2000 covenants, they call it "good odds", and yeah they do defeat them all. Spartans are given the Impossible missions, and Spartans Never Fail, Spartans Never DIE. Yeah the last part is actually true , THE UNSC in order to boost the moral of Human solduers never lists Spartans as KIA ( killed in action ). its a protocol to list even a dead spartan in UNSC as MIA ( missing in action), so as to maintain the illusion of " spartans never die" .

Halo Reach:

Halo reach as stated by others is a prequel to other halo games. ( i have read the halo novels , its story is a bit different from the novels i have read)

it involves the events that took place when Covenant attacked Reach ( Reach , the military stronghold of Humans which was though impenetrable, un-breachable ). There is no mention of Master chief , Jhon-117 in reach though.

Ask what you want , i was very fascinated by halo ever since i played the original halo, so i have read all the novels and played all the games thoroughly.

:) ( i dig these type of stories )

All the Halo games were great. Its just that if you play old ones now , the graphics will feel old aged ( well they are,, now).

Also , SP is not where Halo ends. Multiplayer is one main aspect of Halo, its one of the best FPS multiplayer games i have played in my life.

Halo deserves all the attention it gets, casuse soo much effort has been put in to the franchise. Be it Ads, Music, Gameplay, level design, in my eyes all the things related to halo, have been very well done. So it deserves it .

It makes me sad, that people hate halo without even trying it. :(

Brilliant! Thanks for simplifying the story dude. I' sure it runs much deeper than this. Very intriguing sci-fi story indeed. Where exactly is Reach situated? I mean the actual location, is it revealed? Also this Dr. Catherine Halsey you spoke about, is she the same person with whom we have a conversation in Reach, after completing the second chapter? Are there other units like 'Noble Team'?

yeah you met Dr. Halsey in the second chapter.

Reach
is a planet in Epsilon Eridani System, located within the Inner Colonies. Click the link for more info. IN novels though its not exactly said where is reach . its just that Reach was a human fortress. Equipped with best defenses, said to be capable of Holdng even the covenant ( that is untill, the covenant glassed it )

@Strategy:

Thanks for that superb summary. Is this correct then:

So when Halo 1 starts, The Reach incident has all ready occurred. Pillar of Autumn is the surviving vessel and that too has been traced out by the Covenant, and Master Chief is 'thawed' out. After how long of Reach's siege is PoA actually compromised..?

Were/are these soldiers strong enough that 'one' can accomplish such a huge task..?

yeah the pillar of autumn is compromised immediately after they reach the new location, minutes after the end of halo reach.

All the Spartans are strong , immensely. they have been trained to be strong. all are strong, fast, super-intelligent and yeah, lucky ( they took luck in to account as well when choosing spartan candidates )

TO add to that their MOJOLNIR armor, increases thier speed, strength and response. Normal Humans can not wear that armor. the seed and response of the armor will shatter the bones. But the biological augmentations of spartans have already made them superhuman.

and Spartan-117-Jhon is the luckiest of them all.

Completed the game this morning and you know what, I enjoyed the game. I take back the words I said earlier about the game. It had tons of actions and almost every possible vehicle (aerial & ground) to drive, which is in rarity these days. Glad I tried it out. Definitely recommended to fellow HaxBox360 owners. :)

Till the time , Killzone 3 can suffice.

Would have KZ3 by tomorrow evening , if not earlier.
