we shouldnt compare the android with the iphone that is now...which is what everyone is doing here.i_max2k2 said:Yep even with these flaws its still better, let me sum up some features of G1 (from gizmod and engadget)
- there is no desktop syncing app
- There's no video playback at all right now, except for YouTube
- No multitouch on the G1 and there never will be, since the panel itself doesn't support it
- The lack of a headphone jack
- You've gotta have an SD card for any kind of music or video playback
- capacitive screen feels a tad more fragile
- HTC's keyboards have been getting increasingly shallow of late, and there's not much feel to this one -- the keys are pretty flat with the surface of the phone
- 256MB of built-in memory (wow)
- The music player is pretty disappointing, with a confusing method of selecting and playing songs, and a general "b team" look to it.
- podcasts and Audible haven't even gotten a mention.
I hope that gives you a glimpse of it!

android has a lot of scope for improvement and some of these problems will be addressed by third party apps. we know it will improve while with the iphone you couldnt do anything unless you dint mind your warranty getting void.
you dont use multi touch other than zooming in iphone.
even though you say that HTC keyboards have gotten shallow im sure many would still prefer that over a virtual keyboard.
for headphone jack you get a converter ( remember 1st gen iphone dint even have that even though having a 3.5mm jack it was useless ).
personally im not bothered about memory because i prefer using sd cards to internel memory. they are much easy for transferring files.
the thing we know is that with android we know things are gonna get much much better this being just the beginning in which case i said id prefer an android over an iphone any day.
and this is just the HTC mobile...other mobiles will also come out using android which is when android will actually hit the market.

For those who expect perfection and all the features better to stick with mature platforms that offer them now and let early adopters deal with the inevitable issues and missing features.
Both iPhone and Android have things others platforms don't, so there is a tradeoff to be made, and there are going to be teething issues, those who don't have the patience for this should ideally not get these phones.
Of course in India IMHO it would be pretty silly to get an iPhone at the extortionist pricing (Ps: 3G iPhone available at HK Apple store unlocked for $694) and we can only hope G1 will be available at a reasonable price, though I am pessimistic. Something tells me that's not going to happen. $399 is 18000, how much do you want to bet it will be 30k when/if it lands here.
There is a market and product for everyone. Let the companies fight, not the users. We don't benefit from their profits and I never get the pointless warring. Just my 2 cents.
