If u go for a locally assembeled system, u can save a lot of money even after using the best of the components. The locally assembeled system can take on O-general easily in cooling performance but the noise of the system is usually higher.

What about Durability of Assembled system?
What about Electric consumption?

I have good Experience for Assembled PC.

Does all components use by Ogeneral Available in India, what is Price difference between assembled and Brand?

One of my Neighbor have Assembled Split AC but said Maintainence cost is Higher than Brand. What you say?

For a split system we have a indoor unit(evaporator), one outdoor unit(condensing unit) and the compressor. For best of assembeled AC get

Indoor unit - Azure (Advatec cooling coils pvt ltd.) +
Outdoor unit - Napoleon
+
Compressor - Kirloskar CR22 for 1.5 ton or CR30 for 2 ton
+
reliable and a competent AC mechanic

The above configuration beats O-general cooling performance and is equally energy efficiency. O-general uses Tecumseh Reciprocating compressor and above mentioned kirloskar compressors are best from Copeland of USA.

If u need any other help, post here.

Thx a ton TE_addict.Will go for an AC with reciprocating compressor. Will either go for an O-General or a hitachi based on availablity. Can't go for an assembled one since i don't want a noisy system. I wanted to rep you again but TE wouldn't allow---wanted me to spread some reputation around before giving it to you again.

I was informed today that a 2ton OGeneral split selling for around 45-50k. For a equally good assembled spli with best components avaliable, i expect a pricing of between 20-25k( my house has 6 of them). Almost 50% less.

IMHO, 25k extra for any brand is not worth it.

Hitachi Atom 1.5T split AC is 40K alright. But there is basic (non-Atom model) Hitachi 1.5T split AC also - RAU18HKD. It seems that its 32K only. Why are we not considering this model in this discussion?

50% Low Quote for Assembled Split AC and Quality Equal to Ogeneral, is this your Expectation or Actual Quote from Assembler?:S

whatever the mechanic suggests :

my personal experience has made believe that assembled system may be good for windows AC.

But for split system its a big no no.

i have seen a few friend of mine when intial setup select assembled system and then curse themselves over high cost of maintainnance and high electricity consumption.

@stick : the price difference between branded and assembled is big enough to tempt you. Stay with the brands

Top luxury brands: O-general, Hitachi, daikin

Mid level brands ; Carrier, Electrolux, Onida, frizair, may be whirlpool (i do not have personal experience of whirpool acs but their fridges and washing machines rock)

Low level brands (i will not recemmend them) : LG, Samsung, many others.

@zhops :

ceiling mounted ones are best when you have very high rcc celling and you can do a ducting installation and create a fase ceilling to control the area.

secondly they are also good when you need a concentrated cooling in a particular area of room then the cooler air to disperse off to rest of areas.

the areas which can benefit more are waiting/ receptions area, operation theatre, cinema halls like that.
celling mounted models are more costly that split ones IIRC.

@stick the assembled systems are cheaper because they do not attract excise and st / vat is also low because the component billing is done, and most probably the assemble is your neighbourhood one or your known one who is not a tax assessse so service tax is also not levied.
