Hello friends !!

I'm on look for a better and bigger monitor. Currently I'm using a 17 inch Samsung 713 N monitor that I use primarily for gaming (60%) and for watching movies / TV (40%)... 20 % of those movies are HD and 80 % are SD, however, that may change with better monitor ;)

I'm reading all the recommendation, reviews, threads posted here at TE for quite few days about monitors and quite convinced that minimum 22 inch is the way to go.

My requirements are :-

1) Hook up my monitor with my PC for gaming / movies etc via DVI or HDMI

2) Hook up the monitor with TataSky STB ( is it possible? a monitor with 2 input devices at same time? if yes, how does the monitor know which input to process if both are on?)

3) It should have VESA mount capabilities. I'm going to buy this and mount and monitor on it.

4) Should be using this monitor from 3 feet while reading docs etc and from 8-9 feet while playing games / watching movies , TV etc.

Now my questions :-

1) Is 22 inch enough to play games / watch movies etc from 9-10 feet ?

2) Which monitor should suffice my requirements ?

3) Is Samsung 2233w a good choice?

For the DVI or HDMI part, i think the Benq has HDMI which Samsung lacks...However, i think there's a DVI to HDMI adapter also available...:)

Secondly for the Tatasky STB, the normal monitors don't have a composite input so u can get a composite to VGA and work it out...though i have not yet tried it...
There might also be some monitors from Dell having a plethora of connectivity options probably composite as well but they would be costly...:p

How the monitor is going to switch, there is a Auto and Manual mode. In manual mode u just press a button and the input source would change between DVI and VGA...

My Samsung 2233SW i use for gaming at near distances only however for movies i usually sleep and watch and it doesn't make any difference...If u are watching SD especially, it looks better if u watch it from a little distance...the normal 1.36GB and 700MB rips... :p

As for ur questions:

1. I think 9 feet would be a little too much for the 22"...Probably max 6 feet and u should be good...Though its completely personal preference...
U might wanna go to Croma and take a look from the distance u need and see if it suits u...:)

2. I would suggest Samsung 2233SW but depending upon ur budget and ur viewing distance, u can go on to 24" if u like...:D
The bigger it is the better...:eek:hyeah:

3. It's a really good monitor...Now it has also got the Techtree Editors award as well...So, i think its a good bet...:)

Ohh...I hope this helps to some extent...
So, good luck for ur purchase...:hap2:

Hi guys
I'm also looking for a 22" full HD monitor. My choice is between
  • Samsung 2233sw
  • Dell 2209w
  • Benq T2200HD

I'm inclining towards samsung. Can any1 tell me the relative merits and demerits of one compared to the others. Also what are the best prices I can them for (preferably from nehru place)

Thank a lot clown_abhi for such a descriptive answer. One more thing. Does Samsung2233SW support VESA wall mounting ?

It does support VESA wall mounting...U can find that in the specs mentioned in the website as well and even on the online manual for confirming...:)

And guys i got this for 10.3k from Croma...and its the best price i've seen over here...:)

I have seen lot of review on Benq T2200HD. It seems to better than the rest, search it out through google as even anadtech has its reviews.

Chao.

Chao.

Its Benq E2200HD which is good and has lots of reviews and not T2200HD.
It was good when it was launched...but now when there are so many HD monitors in the 22" category, the Samsung wins...:eek:hyeah:

The only reason anybody would go for the Benq is the HDMI but r u going to spend 2.5k extra just for the port???:bleh:
And looks in Samsung are just killing...

I am using the G2400W from BenQ.

Has the HDMI port, DVI port, 1920x1200 resolution and more importantly, 1:1 pixel mapping. Should work well with dual inputs and any console you have through HDMI.

Just another option for you to consider.

Wow, the dealer zanderzone told me about is giving it for 10500 in gurgaon itself. I thought NP would have been cheaper but since its not I'll get it from gurgaon itself. No point in spending 300bucks on petrol driving from gurgaon to NP and not to mention the extra couple of thousand i'm sure i'll spend if I go there coz of temptation when i see new stuff :eek:hyeah:
